The first planning meeting was on Thursday, August 5th at 6pm at the New Media Rights building at 3100 Fifth Ave. Suite B located in Banker's Hill, San Diego above the Caliph Lounge.

At the first planning meeting we spoke of:

Documenting the event:

Taking photos the day of

Creating a video about the importance of the open web (might be a great idea for a break-out session)

Using the twitter hastag #sddrumbeat, but we have decided not to create a seperate acct.

Sessions:

Speedgeeking : Main questions- How do we structure it so that people can get the most out of this networking session

ideas: having a sheet where people would identify in the left column what types of artists or tech people (ie graphic designer, web programmer, apps expert) they needed to connect with to fulfill the goals of their project. Then there would be stamps where each time the individual spoke to the different experts they could use the sticker on their sheet to represent their connection with that person.

Possibly having three circles: One that is of hybrids (ppl who are experts in arts and tech) .The second circle are tech people, the third would be artists and musicians.

Creating a 1/2 hour session in the afternoon with 2 tracks : possibly doing a tech track and another that is for "how to communicate an open web" strategies

Communication Strategies for the event: Have a common message and using a tech resource where everyone can meet each other beforehand (possibly Ning for this)

Finding a common message for all attendees, which include: artists, technologists, hybrids, people interested in how law overlaps with arts and tech.

Dates: Creating a timeline ? How long does it take to do something like this ?

Technology: What is the right technology to gather submissions for projects that we would focus in that day ?

- Google Groups

- Ning

- Vanilla

- Uservoice.com

NMR thinks that using the Drumbeat project site itself would most likely be the most valuable.
