Me olemme Mozillan suomenkielinen lokalisointitiimi. Uudet jäsenet ovat enemmän kuin tervetulleita joukkoomme! Mozillan tavoitteena on pitää internet vapaana ja meidän suomenkielisten lokalisoijien tehtävänä on pitää Mozilla ja sen tuotteet suomenkielisille käyttäjille helposti lähestyttävinä ja äidinkielellä ymmärrettävinä. Kaikki, mitä näet Mozillan tuotteissa tai verkkosivuilla suomeksi, on tähän tiimiin kuuluvien tai siihen koskaan kuuluneiden aikaansaannosta. Teemme tätä työtä vapaaehtoisvoimin ilman korvausta, ja olemme erittäin otettuja ja kiitollisia jos haluat liittyä joukkoomme.

Lokalisointi takoittaa pelkän kielen kääntämisen lisäksi myös sisällön muokkaamista suomalaiseen kulttuuriin ja kielelliseen ilmaisuun sopivaksi. Tässä on siis tilaisuutesi kehittää kielellistä osaamistasi ja englanninkielisen sisällön kääntämistä suomen kielelle ja Suomen kulttuuriin sopivaksi.

Lokalisointi jakautuu karkeasti kahteen osaan:

Käyttöliittymien lokalisointi. Mozillan tuotteilla tarkoitetaan Mozillan tarjoamia, itsenäisesti eri käyttöjärjestelmissä suoritettavia ohjelmia. Näitä ovat tällä hetkellä Firefox ja Thunderbird.

Verkkosivujen lokalisointi. Mozillan verkkosivut tarjoavat tukea ja opastusta Mozillan tuotteiden käyttäjille ja kehittäjille. Yhteistä näille on se, että verkkosivuja voidaan tarkastella millä tahansa selaimella, missä tahansa käyttöjärjestelmässä.

Jos tunnet vähänkään kutsumusta Mozillan lokalisoinnin suuntaan, niin ota ihmeessä yhteyttä johonkin meistä, niin opastamme sinua enemmän kuin mielellämme eteenpäin. Jäljempänä saat tarkempaa tietoa siitä, keneen kannattaa olla ensisijaisesti yhteydessä.

Aktiiviset projektit

Firefoxin lisäosasivusto AMO. Tällä hetkellä projektiin kuuluvat myös Thunderbirdin lisäosiin liittyvät verkkosivut. Firefoxin lisäosasivusto koostuu kolmesta projektista:

1. AMO. AMO on lisäosasivuston selkäranka, jossa käännetään tekstit, jotka eivät ole muualla. - Apua tarvitaan!
2. AMO Frontend. AMO Frontend käsittää Firefoxin ja Thunderbirdin about:addons -sivuun sekä lisäosasivuston uuteen käyttöliittymään liittyvät tekstit. - Apua tarvitaan!
3. AMO Linter. AMO Linter on lisäosasivustolla käytettävä työkalu, jota käytetään lisäosien tarkistamiseen. - Apua tarvitaan!

Appstores. Appstores sisältää mobiilituotteiden lataussivustoilla (esim. Google Play, Apple App Store) näkyvien Mozilla-tuotteiden esittelyiden tekstit. - Apua tarvitaan!

Common voices. Common Voices -projekti edistää äänentunnistusteknologioiden kehitystä ja Common Voices -projektin suomenkielisillä sivuilla kannustetaan suomenkielisiä käyttäjiä osallistumaan projektiin tarjoamalla suomenkieliset sivut alentamaan projektiin osallistumisen kynnystä. Suomenkielisten lauseiden kerääminen ja sitten niiden äänittäminen on seuraava tärkeä homma.

MDN Web Docs. MDN Web Docs on web-teknologioiden oppimisalusta ja dokumentaatiokeskus. Tässä projektissa lokalisoidaan sivuston tekstejä ja elementtejä.

Thunderbird.net. Thunderbird.net-verkkosivuston elementtejä ja tekstejä lokalisoiva projekti. (Jarmo)

SUpport.MOzilla.org (SUMO) -lokalisointi

SUMO on Mozillan tukisivusto. Tukisivuston lokalisointi poikkeaa tuotteiden käyttöliittymän lokalisoinnista. Tuotteiden käyttöliittymien lokalisoinnissa tärkeintä on löytää mahdollisiman lyhyt ja naseva ilmaus elementeille ja teksteille. Tukiartikkeleiden lokalisointi on vapaampaa siinä mielessä, että tukiartikkeleissa on lokalisoitava laajempia ajatuskokonaisuuksia. Ne vaativat myös huomattavasti enemmän aikaa ja kielellistä osaamista. Jos haluat auttaa lokalisoimaan Mozillan tukisivustoa http://support.mozilla.org/fi suomeksi, toimi seuraavasti:

1. Luo SUMO-tili

1. Any new contributor wants to join Hindi, can join mailing lists of Hindi Mailing List and also join Mozilla L10N

2. Introduce yourself on the mailing list explaining why you wants to contribute by writing in Hindi l10n.

Tasks around Hungarian Mozilla translations

Translation tasks fall in three categories:

1. Product and website translations on Pontoon – see the current state of the Hungarian localizaton.
2. SUMO Localization Dashboard – information about the knowledge base articles.
3. MDN Localization.

Generic advice

Before starting the actual translation work it is advisable to read the Fordítás HOGYAN. Learning to use the tools themselves is not a big deal, and you don't need to wait for permission from anyone to start contributing. But to make those translations count, you want to read this long documentation.

L10n kit

Tools

All localizers working on software projects use Mozilla Translator. The localization process is managed individually by each module owner on his own schedule.

When possible web content is managed on Pontoon, in order to let more people cooperate.

Translation Memory

We currently use Transvision. This tool is useful in several situations, for example to check if wrong strings belong to the software or an add-on, identify in which file a particular string is saved or check how an English string is localized (this is extremely important for SUMO articles).

Glossary

Our team doesn't have an official glossary. The most common terms are available in our Style guide, if a term is missing we rely on Transvision's search.

Style Guide

A brief Style guide is available on our website. We tried to keep it as short and simple as possible: since all the QA process is done in public on our support forum, new localizers can see how previous works were organized, which forms or terms are to be avoided, etc.

How to join this l10n team

1. Join our support forum. Don't be scared by the number of sections, posts or user. There is a low traffic specific section dedicated exclusively to web and software localization and another one for SUMO.
2. Check if there are already open projects (threads like "Help wanted for ..."), or open a new discussion to introduce yourself and explain what you'd like to do. You don't need to be a localizer and know how to translate from English, you can also help us ensuring that the quality of the current Italian localization is the highest possible.
3. You can check if there are open web projects on Pontoon or our Web Dashboard.
4. For the localization of MDN, we have defined a specific workflow. You can read about it here.

Important: if you see something interesting, don't start in a rush. Again, check our forum, see if someone is already working on it and join/help him, we don't want to waste anyone's time and efforts.

We welcome all new localizers and contributors, but we'd like to stress how important is for us that they remain involved after the initial phase. Not only is important, for example, localizing in Italian an article on SUMO, but even more important is to keep it up to date.

Style Guide

Style guides define the standard against which we determine a translation's quality.They contain rules that are both defined by Mozilla and by Mozilla's localization communities on how to best translate text in Mozilla products, websites, and other projects. Style guides are used to both translate and evaluate a translation's quality. By following these rules, a translator has a better chance of producing a high quality translation that represents Mozilla values and culture.

Before starting to localize the Mozilla products, be sure to read the style guide for Nepali L10n from here.

Nepali (ne-NP)

Nepali is official language of Nepal. It is also spoken in some parts of South Asia.

We are currently focused on Firefox (Browser) Localization and our goal for mid-2016 is to provide the community with fully localized Mozilla Firefox in Nepali.

L10n kit

Tools

We use the Mercurial version control system (Hg) to manage our source code and localizations. Localizers in training can get a updated zipfile with the localization files or pull the files from Mercurial

All localizers working on software projects use a texteditor. The localization process is managed individually by each module owner on his own schedule. When possible web content is managed on Verbatim, in order to let more people cooperate.

Translation Memory

We currently use Transvision. This tool is useful in several situations, for example to check if wrong strings belong to the software or an add-on, identify in which file a particular string is saved or check how an English string is localized (this is extremely important for SUMO articles).

Glossary

Our team doesn't have an official glossary. The most common terms are available in our Style guide, if a term is missing we rely on Transvision's search.
