This is a draft of a pitch to try to get more people involved in bugday. Feel free to edit...

Help! We're drowning...

Mozilla uses a tracking system called Bugzilla which tracks software problems (defects), tasks, and feature requests as bugs.

With the high visibility of Mozilla products, such as Firefox and Thunderbird, there are a lot of bugs filed in Bugzilla on a daily basis, and those bugs take a lot of time to sort through. Many of those bugs are duplicates, filed in the wrong place, or really problems with web sites or other software.

The sheer number of bugs submitted means that Mozilla's developers will probably never be able to look at half of them -- they need help...

Ok... what can *I* do?

So that it's actually possible to find the needles in the haystack, we use a really simple system to confirm and triage (sort through) the bugs.

When bugs are submitted into Bugzilla, they are "unconfirmed" - they need someone to look at them, make sure all the information is there, make sure they describe a reproduceable issue, and send them on their way.

Anyone can help us confirm and triage bugs, or write simplified test cases to help make it easier for a developer to diagnose the problem. While all this seems daunting, it's not hard to get started, and we have a great way to help you along the way.

Bug day to the rescue!

Every Tuesday, irc.mozilla.org hosts 3 bug-squashing sessions in #bugday. You can join Mozilla's QA team and other dedicated volunteer in helping to tame the beast that is Bugzilla.
