Calendar:Switching between mail and calendar mode in Lightning

When using Thunderbird with Lightning installed you can easily switch between calender mode and e-mail mode by utilizing the two buttons in the bottom-left (or top left if you changed its position) corner of the screen.

Clicking on the Mail icon will put Thunderbird in mail mode.

Calendar icon will put Thunderbird in calendar mode.

You can also press CTRL-1 to switch to mail mode or CTRL-3 to switch to Calendar-mode. CTRL-2 pops up the adressbook.

Follow the following simple steps to setup Lightning to access your Google Calendar(s). This walk-through is intended for English speakers using Thunderbird with the Lightning extension installed or using Sunbird. It assumes you already have a Google account and have created a Google Calendar. This walk-through applies for all operating systems.

* In your web browser log in to http://calendar.google.com/.
* In the top-right click on the Settings link.

* To the right of the listed calendar that you wish to use click on "Shared: Edit settings"
* You will be given the options Do not share with everyone, Share all information on this calendar with everyone, Share only my free / busy information (hide details.) Select the share settings that you find appropriate for this calendar. You will be able to import the calendar in Lightning regardless of the option you choose.
* Click on the Calendar Details tab.
* Scroll down to the section with "Calendar Address:" and "Private Address:" If you choose "Do not share with everyone" or "Share only my free / busy information" you must use the Private Address. If you chose "hare all information on this calendar with everyone" then you can use either section.
* Click on https://www.google.com/calendar/images/ical.gif in the appropriate section as described in the previous step.
* Right-click on the colored and underlines text that looks like a web site address. In Firefox choose "Copy Link Location" In Internet Explorer choose "Copy shortcut" If you are using another browser choose the equivalent option.
* In Thunderbird [[Switching between mail and calendar mode in Lightning|switch to calendar mode]] by clicking on the calendar icon in the bottom-left.
* Right-click on the calendar list and choose "New Calendar."
* Choose "On the Network" and then click on the Next button.
* In Thunderbird make sure iCalendar is selected. In Sunbird make sure Google Calendar is selected.
* Right-click in the Location box and choose Paste.
* Assign a name and color to the calendar and then choose next.
* In the username field put in your Google username and password.
* Click on the Finish button.

Congratulations, your Google Calendar should be setup correctly. Repeat these steps for any additional Google Calendars you wish to add.

* Locate the event you wish to edit in the appropriate calendar and right-click on it.
* Choose the option "Edit Selected Event..."
* In the From and To fields make the desired changes. Other fields may be changed as well if desired.
* Once all changes have been made click on the OK button.

Follow the following simple steps to create a recurring event in a calendar. This walk-through is intended for English speakers using Thunderbird with the Lightning extension installed or using Sunbird. This walk-through applies for all operating systems. This walk-through also assumes that you have already [[Creating new calendars|created a calendar]].

* Click on the New Event icon. [[Image:New_event.png]]
* In the Title, Location, From and To fields.
* Select the calendar that the event will be created for in the Calendar drop-down menu.
* Put a check in the Repeat checkbox and then click on the "Set Pattern..." button.
* In the Occurs drop-down menu select how frequently this event will occur.
* In the Ever text-box type in how often the frequency will be relevant. For example, for an event that takes place every other week choose Weekly and then 2.
* If you choose a frequency of weekly or monthly you will be asked which days of the week or month the event will occur. Choose those that apply.
* If this event will occur indefinitely put a dot in "Repeat forever"
* If this event will only occur for a limited amount of time put a dot in either "Repeat for __ occurence(s)" or in "Repat until" as applicable and fill in the corresponding fields.
* Click on the OK button.
* Click on the OK button to close out the final dialog and complete the event creation.

Congratulations, your recurring event should be setup correctly.
