draft

Overview
The purpose of the Participation Systems initiative is to force multiply Mozillaās capacity to deliver our ambitious mission by aligning software and IT systems that enable staff, volunteers, and allied communities to work together.

š Background
While our leadership is unified in wanting Mozilla to be truly open to volunteer participation, our current organizational āoperating systemā makes it difficult to work strategically across employee-volunteer-community boundaries. The legacy systems we use are messy and complicated encouraging collaborative workflows that lack engagement and creating barriers to volunteer participation. We have walls that need to be taken down, and new systems that need to be built.

== š
Vision ==

# Mozilla is a great participatory organization, welcoming to staff, volunteers, and allied community alike.
# Programs see the value participation brings to their efforts, and are able to build it into their processes and workflows.
# Mozilla is knowable and understandable leading people to see where and how they can make high value contributions.
# Our software tools continue to evolve in ways that encourage (responsible) openness and match our aspiration for being a great participatory organization.

š Identified Pain Points
# Protected resources within frequently used information and collaboration systems are not accessible to NDAāed volunteers (specifically, google documents/slides/etc and some of the content that is currently in Mana)
# We lack an identity system for volunteers that would unlock access and collaborative capacities. This is complex given the broader need for an identity strategy for staff that is happening in parallel.
# It is difficult for volunteers to manage their contributions and touch-points with Mozilla, or even find/understand opportunities for participation that exist due to inconsistent systems and processes that donāt relate or speak to one another.
# We have a set of useful components such as Mozillians, LDAP, etc, but theyāre not yet integrated.
# We lack understanding of volunteer involvement in different areas (advocacy, coding, SuMo, innovation), and are unable to manage our relationship with volunteers and help them be effective because of fragmented tools and limited systems.

š© Organizational Change Strategy
# Generate Momentum/Create Demand
#* Close collaboration with groups that want to work together, on ālow hangingā or urgent projects.
#* When: In progress w/ IT, MoFo, Participation, CD, identifying other key parties.
# Scale to ānewā areas
#* Build on infrastructure to facilitate new pan-Mozilla projects that leverage participation.
#* When: by EOY, ongoing
# Replace legacy systems
#* Identifying legacy systems for participation and migrating them.
#* When: TBD

== ā
Program Goals ==
# Design and implement contributor management systems
# Evolve collaboration systems
# Evolve contributor compute infrastructure
# Enable Mozilla identity (non-LDAP)
Project Smart Home offers a middle ground between "in a box" solutions like Apple Homekit and DIY solutions like Raspberry Pi. Combining modular, affordable hardware with easy-to-use rules, Smart Home empowers people to solve unique everyday problems in new and creative ways.

We've just kicked off this project, so stay tuned for details on our next steps, but if you would like to get involved as a tester, developer or adviser, you can get in touch with our connected devices participation team.

Project overview
People want affordable, easy-to-use smart home technology, but some of life's everyday problems can't be solved using "in a box" systems. People could solve these problems through DIY solutions like Raspberry Pi, but these solutions are far too complicated for most people.

There is a clear market gap. A few small players are beginning to enter this gap, though their proposals are still not complete enough to solve the problems we've identified, but we donāt know if consumers really want or need something to fill this gap.

A smart home powered by Mozilla would be open and accessible to everyone - financially, technically, and creatively. No one else can do all of these.

Project status
Next steps:
* Understanding life in the home
Learn about everyday pain points inside the home as experienced by the target audience.
* Concept validation
Learn about the limitations of existing solutions for the target audience. Use existing solutions to understand how people might use our concept to solve their unique needs.
* Research options for execution
Do the research needed to make a build/buy/partner decision.

SensorWeb wants to advance Mozillaās mission to promote the open web when it evolves to the physical world. It aims to find the easiest path from sensors to open data so contributors can collaboratively use sensors to get great detail of understanding their living environment. We are launching a pilot project to build a crowdsourcing pm2.5 sensor network.

We picked one use case to be our pilot project and would like to invite everyone who shares the same passion to contribute, whether you are a developer, a blogger, or simply want to help. If you would like to participate, you can get in touch with our connected devices participation team immediately, or contact our development team below.

Project overview
SensorWeb is a blueprint to enable many hyper local uses cases and make sure everyone gets to access that data. It can be the real-time air quality of their neighboring street, the current wait time at their favorite cafe, water quality from rivers close to the village, etc.

Today, we all use the web to access information generated by people. SensorWeb envisions a future of web that everyone freely shares and accesses real-time sensor data for better understanding of our living environment. Contributors can find a problem they want to solve with sensors and easily publish the sensor data on the web as they do with the web pages today. When a web user searches for information online, they will be presented with the relevant real-time data published by a sensor, or insights from analyzing hundreds or thousands of sensor data.

Pilot project
We are working on a pilot project to build a crowdsourcing PM2.5 sensor network. PM2.5 is a growing problem that affects many parts of the world. Government around the world are asked to publish open data of PM2.5 index from their monitoring stations. However, government and companies can only set up so many stations. As a result, people can not obtain meaningful insights from the data. For instance, we will not be able to know when the air is bad in our neighborhood due to a nearby construction site as the government data tells us the city has a healthy number of PM2.5. We also will not know if our office has worse air quality compared to outside air or that the route and the time we choose to do our daily run is very bad for our health. We have access to numbers, but they are not meaningful as it does not link to our day to day life.

Project status
The team received Mozillaās support to proceed with the development of this pilot project. More details will be followed in the coming weeks. We will announce it through Mozillaās website and mailing list as soon as it is ready.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with the team.
Vaani aims to bring a voice to the Internet of Things (IoT) using open, Mozilla-backed technologies. We believe a voice interface is the most natural way to interact with connected devices, but currently, there are no open solutions available at scale. With Vaani, we plan to offer an "IoT enabler package" to developers, device makers, and end users who want to add a voice interface to their devices in a flexible and customizable way, while avoiding the need to ālock-inā with one of the major commercial players. Initially, Vaani will target smart homes, but will eventually expand to voice-enable a wider range of applications of IoT.

If you would like to get involved with Project Vaani as a tester, developer or adviser, you can get in touch with our connected devices participation team.

Project overview
At present, there is gap in the industry gap for an open voice solution for connected devices and IoT, and the existing commercial players are moving quickly to lock-in users, partners and developers. This is part of their "staircase" approach by building steps like voice interface, IoT back-end, user data collection, and AI, to create long term lock-in. For example, if you are a hardware maker or a developer looking to voice-enable your gadget, the most clearly defined path is to commit to one of the big players.

We believe we need to challenge the status quo here. At least, create a "wedge in the door" before everything becomes completely closed. Merely enabling a voice interface should not have to lock you down. Imagine if you could only buy an Apple or Samsung device if you wanted to use touch interface. Voice is critical, especially for connected devices, as user interfaces make way for other user experiences as we go about their daily lives.

Project status
Right now, the Vaani team is brainstorming how we can create our own unique solution that does not have to compete (or catch up) with the existing players like Siri and Google Now. Their solutions have had the head start user bases to improve on quality and scope. Rather, we need to offer something that is possibly focused on fewer segments (or categories) and is meaningfully better. Our solutions could work really well for specific categories, be better at working offline / online, have a smaller memory footprint and do all this without the lock-ins. For developers, it can be something they can configure, enhance, add languages and customize, something that feels and sounds like Mozilla.

We are currently in a validation phase of our product innovation process. If you would like get involved, you may get in touch with our connected devices participation team.
Project Link aims to be your own, personal user agent for the smart home, creating a web of things that is completely yours. Instead of entrusting your data to a third party, your Link agent understands your preferences for how you want to interact with the world of devices in your home, and can even automate your connected world for you. All of this still done conveniently and securely, but completely under your control.

If you would like to participate, you can get in touch with our connected devices participation team, or find us on irc.mozilla.org, channel #foxlink.

Project overview
Project Link (formerly Foxlink) is a short-term experiment to build a software building block that can interact with various devices. Most code is done in Rust.

Development process
Repositories
All code is open source and hosted on GitHub repositories. Please file bugs on Github issues for these repositories.

IRC
You can find us on irc.mozilla.org, channel #foxlink.

Methodology
We are using some agile practices:
* "Stand-up" meetings happen on etherpad and on IRC every weekday between 5pm and 5:15pm UTC.
* Weekly meetings happen in Vidyo and on etherpad every monday between 5pm and 6pm UTC.
To have Mozilla succeed through openness and participation
Participation Team Principles
These are the principles that guide our actions. We chose a manifesto in order to capture the many complex elements of our participatory mission.

# Participation is when people can freely contribute their energies, time and ideas to support Mozillaās mission
# In order to keep the web open and participatory it must be shaped by organizations, like Mozilla, who are equally open and participatory
# Participation is at the core of Mozillaās history and identity and provides a key advantage for Mozilla as an organization
# Participation cannot exist without a culture of openness that allows contributors the opportunity to shape and build Mozillaās programs and products at every level
# Participation must provide value for both Mozilla and Mozillians (participants)
Working in the open

The team is using an agile, scrum-like process called Heartbeats (modeled from the Mozilla Foundation team) to manage our week-to-week work. This involves 3-week Heartbeats, with a number of focused projects during each Heartbeat that link to the quarter goals.

Our workflow uses GitHub + Google Docs + Etherpads. Anyone can comment, follow-along or get involved ā the workflow is here. We welcome feedback on the process and approach. Also, we have a section on Mozillaās discourse, where anyone could create topics and collaborate.

You can also follow along with what weāre doing on the Blog and by following [@MozParticipate on Twitter](https://twitter.com/mozparticipate).

You could find our current heartbeat work here. Until October 2nd

How to participate
We always welcome participation in our work. We mark issues on Github with Ā«Volunteer taskĀ» tag, so itās clear where people can help and lead tasks. You could find those issues in this link.

If you'd like to get regular updates and discussions about Participation at Mozilla we have a section at Mozillaās discourse that you can use as a mailing list as well as an online forum. In fact, once itās set up you respond to threads by emails and it will be publish directly into the topic.

Ppapadeas: /* I went to the 2013 Summit and don't have 3 vouches on my profile. How can I get those 3 vouches? */

This document describes the new vouching system for Mozillians.org that is being released in July 2014. For more information on development of these vouching changes, see Vouching Refactor.

Example vouches
Thank you vouch
Should happen within a few days of action being taken and should be for something specific, include what you are thanking them for.

Thank you so much for how you showed up and stayed engaged during our entire Community Building meetup. Your contributions are very valuable.

Lindsey worked nights and weekends to help the Release Engineering team finish the release on time - it went out on time with much higher quality thanks to her extra effort!

Impact vouch
Should happen when you couldn't have done something without that contribution, be specific about what they did.

Stuart is awesome!! He is one of our top contributors on the Firefox support forum, helping hundreds of users every day. I have rarely met a person who has such a calm, professional but also warm way of dealing with users even when they are angry. Go Stuart!

We can always count on Jessica to welcome new contributors and to help them get started. She is an integral part of the MDN community.

Celebration vouch
Should happen when you have a positive interaction with someone that you want to positively reinforce. These are usually more generic.

William is so much fun to work with! I'm always excited when he is on a project.

Dave consistently goes above and beyond, he thinks of new & inventive ways to contribute to the localization team.

FAQ
How do I get vouched?
Contribute! Once you have contributed significantly to any of Mozilla's projects, ask the people you are working with to vouch you on Mozillians.org. They will either do so, or will encourage you to make a few more contributions first.

What does "being vouched" mean?
Vouching is the mechanism we use for giving Mozillians access to special content. Getting vouched as a Mozillian means you have made a meaningful contribution. It allows you to view all profiles for other Mozillians and you get access to special content on other Mozilla sites.

Being vouched means you have been accepted as a contributing member of the Mozilla community and may be given access to data and information that Mozilla only shares with those in the community who have made meaningful contributions. As a vouched Mozillian, you have access to:
* View all profiles and join groups
* Receive email communications sent to vouched Mozillians
* Access special video content on Air Mozilla
* Join the Mozilla Exchange Yammer network
* Use other Mozilla apps as a vouched user

What has changed?
Previously, your profile could only be vouched one time by any vouched Mozillian. Your profile can now receive up to 6 vouches. Each vouch requires a comment describing how the person has made a meaningful contribution to Mozilla.

Why are we making these changes?
For the first time we will have a shared definition and understanding of vouching as well as an explanation for each vouch. Read more about the impact of the vouching changes.

Am I still vouched?
Yes, though you may need to get vouched again before December 18.
* If you attended the Mozilla Summit 2013, you have received 3 automatic vouches and can vouch for others.
* If your Mozillians.org profile is associated with a mozilla.org/mozilla.com/mozillafoundation.org email address, you have received 1 automatic vouch.
* If neither of the above apply to you and you were previously vouched, someone will need to vouch for you again and give a reason. You still have a legacy vouch and can use the site normally until December 18. If you do not receive a new vouch by December 18, you will lose your vouched status until someone vouches for you again.

Why do I need to get vouched again? (for those who did not attend Summit 2013)
The new vouches describe what contributions you have made for Mozilla. Since the old vouches did not include a description, we want everyone to have documentation showing how they have contributed.

I went to the 2013 Summit and don't have 3 vouches on my profile. How can I get those 3 vouches?
Sorry we missed you - we used the best data source we had. Please file a Community Tools :: Account Help bug explaining which Summit location you were at and we'll get you those 3 vouches.

Are there different levels of vouched Mozillians?
Any Mozillian who has one vouch can search and view profiles in the directory. Any Mozillian who has at least three vouches can vouch other Mozillians.

Someone asked me to vouch for them. Should I vouch for them?
Only vouch for contributors who have made significant contributions to one of Mozilla's projects. If you cannot verify their contributions and do not know the person, ask them to have someone they have worked with vouch for them instead.

Can I still vouch for others?
You can vouch for others if your profile has received 3 or more vouches.

Who can see the information I add to my profile?
It depends.
* Most fields on your profile have "per-field" privacy settings. You can set a field to "public", which means anyone on the internet can search for and view those fields (and therefore also can view your username). Also, "public" profile fields are shared through the Mozillians.org API with any vouched Mozillian who requests a "vouched" API key.
* You can also set a field to "Mozillians" which means any vouched Mozillian can view it. Also, certain reviewed applications have been given elevated access to the API in order to help Mozilla's platforms inter-operate. These reviewed applications can read fields through the API that you have marked for "Mozillians" only.
* Mozillians.org is maintained by employees of Mozilla, including engineers, system administrators and database administrators. These people have access to the raw data of your profile in a variety of formats, but they only encounter it while doing their jobs.

Is there a limit on vouches?
Yes, a Mozillian can have at most 6 vouches. There is a limit since there's not a need for someone to have 100 vouches and also to the amount of profile content manageable.

Can I edit or remove a vouch?
Vouches cannot be edited or removed in the user interface. If you want to edit or remove a vouch that you created that has errors, file an Account Help bug. Include the URL of the user you vouched for, any corrections and the reason that you want the vouch edited or removed. A Mozillians.org admin will review the bug.

Vouches will only be deleted if they were added accidentally or for a well-justified reason. Vouches are designed to be permanent and will not be removed because someone has stopped contributing.

Why is the vouching system changing?
Mozillians.org has outgrown its simple vouching model. Vouching wasn't well explained and it wasn't clear why someone was vouched. We are adding descriptions to vouches to explain why individuals are vouched.

Mozillians.org has become a mature platform and a valuable source of information about people who contribute to Mozillaās products and mission, and it is likely to be important to Mozilla's ambitious contributor goals over the next decade. But Mozillians.org has outgrown the authorization paradigms it started with. Therefore, in order to prevent data safety issues and questions about product integrity, we must design and implement an authorization system that accommodates current and future data and users. We are applying this system evenly to both the UI and the API.

Read more about the analysis of the original authorization system.

Who We Are
Mozilla is a global community with a shared mission. Our people ā supporters, volunteers and staff -- are our biggest strategic advantage. They give us the leverage we need to compete and win against competitors with much more reach and money. Keeping our people engaged -- and finding modern, high impact ways to get them participating in our work -- is essential if we want to successfully confront the huge challenges that Mozilla and the web face today.

By 2017, we need to make a leap forward: Mozilla again needs to have an approach to participation that is massive and diverse, local and global. By then we want:

* Many more people working on Mozilla activities in ways that make Mozilla more effective than we can imagine today.
* An updated approach to how people around the world are helping to build, improve and promote our products and programs.
* A steady flow of ideas and execution for programs, product whatever from around the world ā new and diverse activities that move the mission forward in concrete ways.
* Ways for people to participate in our mission directly through our products -- there is integration of participation into the *use* and *value proposition*.
* Ultimately: more Mozilla activities than employees can track, let alone control.

If we can get to this point, we will be a different Mozilla -- an organization that is once again recognized as a leader in openness and participation and that is able to enrich lives and shape the web with a depth and scale that is bigger than ever. The Mozilla community will be having a massive positive impact on the web and on peopleās lives.

Community Tools allow Mozilla contributors to work better together. We are developing a suite of tools that allow people to know more, do more, and do better in the Mozilla world.

Vision
The Community Tools team serves to amplify the ability for Mozillians to contribute and connect with each other through the use of tools. We're building tools to help all Mozillians grow the number of contributions and contributors in the project.

The team helps easily organize contributors to make it easier for people to communicate, collaborate and recognize each other. We provide a suite of modules for contributors to organize events and report their activities in the Mozilla Project. We engage people with contribution opportunities, and keep them informed of relevant Mozilla news.
* Reps Portal - tools for Reps to be successful in their day to day activities and also receive mentorship for continued development (wiki)

2014 focus
mozillians.org
* Make contributor information more accessible
* Recognize contributors in a meaningful way
* Create a suite of modules
* Scale operations
* Measure the impact of activities and events
* Create a community leadership platform
Roadmap
2015Q1
Mozillians.org moving forward needs to comply with Systems and Data principles as outlined by the Systems and Data working group. Those can be found here.

Mozillians.org as the source of truth about people data
Building on top of the core functionality of mozillians.org (phonebook) we need to make mozillians.org the one-stop place for all Mozillians to learn about fellow Mozillians.
* [P1] Multiple emails per profile
* [P2] Expose location information in search field
* [P3] People lists using language fields

Mozillians.org as a service to other Mozilla properties
Mozillians.org should be able to provide all people specific (identity) and discovery functionality to other Mozilla systems and websites in an easy, secure and documented way.
* [P1] Democratize API access, deploy API v2
* [P2] Use secondary emails on APIv2
* [P3] Ability to login using multiple emails.

Mozillians.org as a stable platform
Years of development of mozillians.org platform has created a considerable amount of development debt. In order to create a stable development environment we need to invest in updating our core libraries and apps to enable further development of features.
* [P1] Update to at least pyelasticsearch 0.6 and elasticutils 0.8
* [P2] Update documentation using docker
* [P3] Update factory fixtures to match production data types

Provisional Council
During the initial phase Mozilla Reps program (April 2011-Sep 2012), a provisional council was set up by the Mozilla Reps project leads (William and Pierros), comprised of 7 Mozilla volunteers (who have volunteered to join the council and were designated by the project leads) and 2 Mozilla paid staff (William and Pierros themselves).

Each Mozilla Rep on the provisional council was designated based on the following criteria:

* initial interest expressed in ReMo and participation in early planning discussions
* extensive experience contributing to the Mozilla project and deep knowledge of the project
* geographic location

In early September 2012, as decided during the Mozilla Reps Camp 2012 the second Mozilla Reps Council was selected through random selection. Candidates were all mentors who corresponded to the criteria defined during the Camp. The first 3 candidates chosen were automatically given a 1 year term, and the remaining 4 candidates were given a 6 month term.

Stumbling in a Box
Intro
* Stumbling in a Box (SIAB) is a full or half day introduction to Ā«Stumbling toolsĀ» that bring knowledge to participants on how to gather Ā«Geolocation informationĀ» in their cities and add it to our repository. After this event, during a certain period of time, participants will gather information and upload it to our servers.
* The goal of SIAB is to create a global free geolocation service that can be used openly by organizations around the world to create apps and mobile services.

Learn. Know your city. Contribute.
Stumbling in a Box (SIAB) is an event to:
*Show the tools available for different platforms to gather location information
*Contribute to Mozilla and free and open projects
*Get feedback about our tools and how to improve them (for devs)
*Build geolocation information servers to be used by apps and services around the world (for devs)

Optimal size
Consider 20 people as a minimum. 50-100 people is optimal. In some locations, where space is available, you could consider hosting 200 max.
Time needed to plan
Plan to spend 8-10 hours planning your stumbling event over a few weeks, to give yourself enough time to get the word out, find a space (ideally with wifi and a projector). Feel free to experiment with the format. More interactivity is good.
In most locations youāll probably want to get together for half day on a weekend Saturday or Sunday for the intro part of the event
Roles
Consider putting a small team together to help run the event with you. Some recommended roles to split between you are:
* MC - to ensure everything runs smoothly
* Presenter(s) - to hold introductory talks
* Local location expert - to know the locations around and how to get there

Staff involvement
One thing you should do is look for Mozillians locally who work on Geolocation or related fields like Apps, Firefox OS etc.
Objectives/desirable outcomes
*Primary objective: Gather location data for many cell towers and Wi-Fi access points
*Get more people involved into Stumbling
*Get apps tested and bring new developers into Location Services
*Get more developers to try MLS API and give feedback
*Help build Firefox OS momentum.

Steps to produce
Organize
# Inform via community mailing list and social media. Also, think of places outside the Mozilla community where stumblers might be found: schools, universities, meetups (e.g. local geolocation interest groups, open source meetups), coworking spaces or hacker spaces
# Find a location which is easy to access via walking/public transport, probably center of city or nearby location of few community members
# Finalize the planning, confirm location with owner
# Create event in our Event System
# Goal in event should be Services and Event Category Location Services
# Publish event detail in mailing list/IRC/Social Media Communication - Facebook,Twitter, etc (see below)
# Add a bit of decoration before event if the owner is OK.
# Have a great Stumbling in a Box starting by welcoming all attendees. (see below)
Budget request
Generally budget is not needed for the Stumbling in a Box. In special cases you might need to file a Budget Request. If so, please follow the Reps procedure.
Swag Request
File the appropriate Swag Request if needed.
Special Swag may or may not be available for participants. There's a special t-shirt ready for this events, which should only be used as a reward for the top participants after the event period.

Agenda
Short Version
# Welcome speech - keep it brief. Introduce Mozilla, Mozilla Location Services and why/how Mozilla is focused on keeping the web open.
# Point participants to apps and resources.
# Introduce all available tools/apps and their usage.
# Give people time to install and test the apps.
# Register people in a spreadsheet and explain the time commitment. They will be running around for the next 4-6 hours :)
# Set a timeframe for the day and schedule a time for everyone to meet back at the event location after the Stumbling is over to determine the winners.
# Plan trips and form teams
# Let people go, drive around, walk, take a bus etc
# Meet back 4-6 hours later
# Announce winners based on leaderboard, give prizes.
# Debrief for the day and answer questions. Remind everyone that stumbling can keep going. (Keep MozStumbler open!)
Long Version
# Welcome speech - keep it brief. Introduce Mozilla, Mozilla Location Services and why/how Mozilla is focused on keeping the web open.
# Point participants to apps and resources.
# Talks will depend on who is available and what their experience is. Use videos and screencasts as needed. Keep it short!
# Introduce all available tools/apps and their usage.
# Give people time to install and test the apps.
# Register people in a spreadsheet and explain the time commitment. Generally the call to action for the long version will be to stumble for at least a week.
# Set a timeframe for the day and schedule a time to meet back at the event location (about 1 or 2 hours)
# Let people go, drive around, walk as a small test
# Meet back in the venue.
# Debrief for the day and answer questions.
# After 3 days follow up to announce leaders on the leaderboard to engage participants.
# After a week, follow up to announce winners based on the leaderboard.
Spreading the word
* You could use your Twitter and Facebook accounts to show the world how you are helping build this geolocation repository. Use #mozgeo tag.
* Mobilizers: Use your mobilizer team to spread the word and make them compete to have more Ā«spotsĀ»
* Affiliates banner with a link to an introduction of the project and a makes on how to participate individually.
Publicity
* Social media SOP
** Tweet for the event!
** Announce on community Facebook page
** Consider posting posters and announcements on local communities and universities, colleges.
Artwork
You can use the image linked at the start of this wiki page.
As always if you need anything more specific, make sure to ask the Mozilla Design team or reps-general for more help.

During the event
Arrive at the event venue at least an hour before. Make sure that you have enough space allocated for you by the venue. Inform them with the basics of the event.
Welcome everyone as they come, and make sure that everyone knows each other. Consider having name tags available.
Start with some latest news on Mozilla and gradually identify the interests of the group and shift focus on those.
Take notes! If you do not know the answer on something, write it down and follow up via email.

App usage instructions
* Turn the ON/OFF switch to ON to stumble.
* You need 3 or more GPS satellite fixes to collect data (indicated on the upper left of the screen).
* Move around for dots (green for cell+Wi-Fi, purple for Wi-Fi only, blue square for cell only) to appear (approximately 30 meters apart), these are 'Reports' (the count of which is on the upper right of the screen), and are the key contribution metric. Maximize these!
* The blue fuzzy dots on the map are the existing coverage. Ideally, stumble in areas that have no coverage. It takes 24 hours for your contribution to show on the map.
Wrap-up & reimbursements
Make sure that you do any follow ups after the event.
Report back
Once the event is over, report back as soon as possible. Your fellow Reps are eager to know what happened!
Inbound
ReMo
Make sure to update the event page of the event with photos, posts, and links.
Write an email to reps-general with links to photos if possible. (Everyone loves photos!)
Planet
Write a post on your blog (even a short one) and make sure it appears on remo planet.
Outbound
Local Media
Make sure to update all the communication channels you used during promotion with the outcomes of the event.
Regional Communities
Best way to follow up with them is to cc them in your report to reps-general. They also love pictures!

Intro
Community builders need data to measure growth, track volunteer contributions, measure success and enable participation. The systems track will focus on how Mozilla can retool and instrument our efforts to provide efficient onboarding, management and reward systems as we aim for exponential community growth over the next decade.

Vision
Build the systems that support the growth of One Million Mozillians.
Goal
Make the business case and gather priorities for the systems to support the 1 Million Mozillians goal. In order to define the scope of the first iteration and deliver it in 2014.

Principles
In order for Mozillians to easily access tools and contribute in a way that maximizes impact, we recommend these principles be adapted for all tools used by Mozilla. This will be a long-term effort.
* Unified Identity
** Tools should have single source of truth for people data
*** Integration with HRIS
*** mozillians.org already has staff and volunteer information, so it is a good candidate at the single source of tr
** Tools should de-duplicate people information by integrating with a single source of truth
** e.g. Reps: Not integrated with Mozillians.org, lots of duplicate information on two profiles
* Unified Authentication and Authorization
** Tools should use a single identity platform that provides permissions-based access to tools (like Mozillians.org)
** e.g Reps: add people to the Reps group on mozillians.org to give them permission to use rep.mozilla.org as a Rep
* Accessible Metrics
** Tools should track each contribution a Mozillian makes and provide it in an accessible way to create a holistic view of contributions
* Localization
** Tools should be localized so they are accessible to our global community
* Education
** Tools should teach the user how to use the tool, answer common usage questions, and have general documentation
* Recognition
** Tools should recognize the contributions that they enable
* Participation
** Tools should enable anyone to improve the tool by filing bugs, suggesting ideas and bringing those ideas to life
* Content de-duplication
** Tools should de-duplicate the content that is created in those tools, making it accessible to other systems
* Fun
** Tools should be personal and written in the Mozilla voice

Ppapadeas: updated SIAB

* Presenter(s) - to hold introductory talks

# Add event under MLS Campaign
Publicity
* Social media SOP

* Unified Identity
* Unified Authentication and Authorization
** Tools should use a single identity platform that provides permissions-based access to tools (like Mozillians.org)
** e.g Reps: add people to the Reps group on mozillians.org to give them permission to use rep.mozilla.org as a Rep
* Accessible Metrics
** Tools should track each contribution a Mozillian makes and provide it in an accessible way to create a holistic view of contributions
* Localization
** Tools should be localized so they are accessible to our global community
* Education
** Tools should teach the user how to use the tool, answer common usage questions, and have general documentation
* Recognition
** Tools should recognize the contributions that they enable
* Participation
** Tools should enable anyone to improve the tool by filing bugs, suggesting ideas and bringing those ideas to life
* Content de-duplication
** Tools should de-duplicate the content that is created in those tools, making it accessible to other systems
* Fun
** Tools should be personal and written in the Mozilla voice

** Tools should use a single identity platform that provides permissions-based access to tools (like Mozillians.org)
** e.g Reps: add people to the Reps group on mozillians.org to give them permission to use rep.mozilla.org as a Rep
* Accessible Metrics
** Tools should track each contribution a Mozillian makes and provide it in an accessible way to create a holistic view of contributions
* Localization
** Tools should be localized so they are accessible to our global community
* Education
** Tools should teach the user how to use the tool, answer common usage questions, and have general documentation
* Recognition
** Tools should recognize the contributions that they enable
* Participation
** Tools should enable anyone to improve the tool by filing bugs, suggesting ideas and bringing those ideas to life
* Content de-duplication
** Tools should de-duplicate the content that is created in those tools, making it accessible to other systems
* Fun
** Tools should be personal and written in the Mozilla voice
