The maturity model seeks to make the [[Contribute/Lifecycle|contribution lifecycle]] documentation more easy to understand for all parties. This model shows different stages a team will go through along the process of integrating community.

Identifying your team's stage of maturity, allows a more focused approach to increase commitment of community on a team. Each stage has a measure of success to work toward in order to mature. The Community Building Team will act as your partner to set achievable goals and help community involvement on your team successfully mature!

When we focus on value and impact, we must be explicit. On this page are implicit principles that guide the work of the Community Building Team. We share them so that you can have a better understanding of both how we work and how to work with us. The principles below are how we approach our work, how we ensure quality in our work, and can help collectively ''build understanding'' around how our work gets done.

# '''Build Understanding''' - Demonstrate competence. Seek first to understand. Every engagement is different. We care about people and doing the right thing for them. In order to best help them, we are curious.
# '''Build Connections''' - Be a catalyst for connection. Our team has a broad reach in the organizations. Sometimes the best way we can build is by connecting what is already there.
# '''Build Clarity''' - This is important when bringing more people into a project. We seek to navigate through the confusion to create clarity for us, our partners and the community.
# '''Build Trust''' - This is about having someone’s back. It’s important that the people we work with know that we are in this with them, together.
# '''Build Pilots''' - Our work is not a one size fits all. We care about the best solution so we test our assumptions to see what works and build from there.
# '''Build Win-Win''' - Focus on mutual benefit. We engage in win-win partnerships because our success is dependent on others. More people can only sustainably come into a project when it’s mutually beneficial. We want to make our partners look good.
Sboltonhttps://wiki.mozilla.org/index.php?title=Contribute/Maturity_Model&diff=1029245Contribute/Maturity Model2014-10-29T18:08:50Z
Sbolton: added text for stages of maturity

* As noted last meeting, we're actively looking for new ways community can have impact on topline goals in Q3/Q4.

* We've developed a tentative set of goals for this time frame, which are:
** Maintain momentum on our community goal (Q3/4)
** Start new community initiatives / challenges that interest volunteers and have positive impact on our product goals (Q3/4)
** Involve leadership from across the project and within regional communities (Q3/4)
** Design an even more ambitious plan for 2015+ (Q4)

* We'll be discussing these goals and short term community 'challenges' tied to products at ReMo camp in Berlin next weekend.
** A list of possible challenges is here: https://cbt.etherpad.mozilla.org/contribution-challenges
** If you have ideas to add to this list, reach out to Kirstin Baird and David Boswell.

* Full update from Mitchell / Surman coming on this topic next week. Non-verbal for today.

= Overview =
The Grow Program will help Mozillians gain and improve their skills in leadership, collaboration, community building and contribution, all while helping to expand the Mozilla community and the work of the Project.

As you may know, the Grow Program is a revamp of the MozCamp programs of the past. However, Grow is a very different program that directly supports our [https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1GK0w8wn-MuNv_yDocXt6KRFoVGrpdnBx1r_vlJe1qYc/edit?usp=sharing “Enable Communities that have Impact” goal.] The Grow program brings together core contributors to participate in learning and developing best practices for how to recruit, onboard and sustain new contributors. It is aimed at developing contribution skills for individuals, in order to share those skills with others so we can continue to increase the impact of our communities for the project and in the world.

The aim of the Grow Program is two-fold - first, we are aiming to grow and enhance the skills of our dedicated contributors with regards to their personal community building and evangelism skills. We will be working closely with chosen individuals through the rigorous program, both in general community building and within individual areas of expertise and interest. The second goal of the Grow Program is to scale the Mozilla Project in a meaningful way. Using the skills learned in the program, participants will be able to bring in highly engaged contributors into the project within their local communities, growing both their community and Mozilla as a whole.

== Rebranding Process ==

Again, it is important to note, the Grow Program is the next evolution of the former MozCamp events. As MozCamp has developed and changed over the past year, we felt the name should also change to better reflect the new nature and goals of the program. The renaming process was a collaborative effort that involved discussions and feedback from many groups of Mozillians. The “Grow” name was developed based on feedback collected in a survey sent to members of the community as well as discussions around the goals and objectives for the evolution of MozCamp – it also aligns with the larger Community Building program, Grow Mozilla.

== Program Planning ==

2014 Grow events are being planned by a cross-organizational core team consisting of Mozilla contributors, especially Reps and MoFo/MoCo staff.

[[MozCamps_2014/Planning | The Planning wiki page]] has more information on Grow event planning for 2014.
=Grow Tunisia=
==Overview==

The first three-day event, Grow Tunisia, will take place in Tunis from Friday, September 26, through Sunday, September 28. Participants must be available to arrive on Thursday, September 25, and should plan to depart on Monday, September 29.

Grow Tunisia participants can expect three full days of intense, instructor-led training as well as challenging hands-on work. The curriculum will include community building skills such as event planning, recruitment and project planning. Additionally, participants will delve into specific contribution areas to sharpen those skills and think about how to invite others to join.

Once participants leave Grow Tunisia, they will work with a mentor and a team of fellow participants to grow our community of active contributors by recruiting at least 5 new active contributors,* reactivating 10 idle contributors or hosting at least 2 events. (*An “active” contributor is one who has completed one measurable contribution for their contribution area.)
==Agenda==

'''MozCamp Beta is an experiment.''' This is the first time Mozilla is testing how to '''train contributors to bring in more contributors''' across the project.

This agenda was developed in '''collaboration with volunteer and paid contributors together with local community members''' to focus on building community and recruiting new contributors into specific pathways.

We're testing general sessions on storytelling and community building as well as breakout contribution area tracks.

Because MozCamp Beta is being held in India in anticipation of the launch of Mozilla's $25 smartphone, there's a '''special focus of this content on Firefox OS and engagement with the new phone.''' Firefox OS specific content is being developed specifically for the Indian region and this Beta event.

Most content however will be tested in India for future MozCamps, and iterated upon based on what we learn at the Beta and in subsequent results metrics and feedback.

== Rebranding Process ==

== Program Planning ==

2014 Grow events are being planned by a cross-organizational core team consisting of Mozilla contributors, especially Reps and MoFo/MoCo staff.
==Overview==

The first three-day event, Grow Tunisia, will take place in Tunis from Friday, September 26, through Sunday, September 28. Participants must be available to arrive on Thursday, September 25, and should plan to depart on Monday, September 29.

==Agenda==

====Storytelling====
The goal of this session is to collaborate on crafting personally meaningful and engaging stories about Mozilla, to enable each participant to confidently describe Mozilla and it's mission to anybody (regardless of familiarity with the web!). We'll build a story in a game activity throughout the course of the weekend, answering:

1. Mozilla is...

2. Here's how I first got involved....

3. If this is interesting to you, here's how you can get involved too....

====Community Building for All====

* Goal: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
** Recruit based on the mission.

== Contribution Areas ==
A "CA Track" (in the agenda image above) refers to "Contribution Area" track.

At MozCamp Beta - India, we are testing four of the ~10 CA (tied to our community pathways). Each runs twice: once Saturday, and once Sunday. So each attendee gets to participate in two different CA tracks. The goal of each track is to focus on building community and recruiting new participants, with a focus (for all but User Centered Design) on Firefox OS.

====Engagement====
'''(all attendees will to to this track, plus one other of their choosing)'''

'''Goal:''' Recruiting community for $25 phone launch and thinking through the Mobilizers program for India's smartphone distribution model

'''Owners:''' Brian King, Jessica Osorio and William Quiviger

'''Toolkit:''' (WIP) [https://brianking.makes.org/thimble/LTIxOTkzODgxNg==/mozcamp-engagement-session-toolkit https://brianking.makes.org/thimble/LTIxOTkzODgxNg==/mozcamp-engagement-session-toolkit]

====SUMO====
'''Goal:''' Develop localized support docs and forum responses to support phone launch

'''Owner:''' Ralph Daub

====User Centered Design====
(User Research + UX Design)

'''Goal:''' Build a local user centered design community to collect on-the-ground observational data, localize surveys, and identify top-potential contributors to receive special training and badges to support new product development through developing cultural insights and need finding

'''Owner:''' Bill Selman
'''Workshop Program:''' [https://wselman.makes.org/thimble/LTQ1NTE0NzUyMA==/mozcamp-user-centered-design-workshop UCD Mozcamp Workshop]

====Developer Outreach====
(Developer Relations / MDN)

'''Goal:''' This session will teach community members how to approach and talk to developers about Firefox OS so that the developers want to create apps for this platform, and want to help other developers do the same.

'''Owner:''' Frédéric Harper

=Overview=

The Get Involved page is the first page most people see when they want to become a contributor at Mozilla. It is important that this page be reflective of the people in our community. In order to do that we have opened up the design process to incorporate your feedback. '''Mozilla is not just one voice and the way we build our products, especially the Get Involved page, needs to reflect that.'''

We have involved the community on this project so far (e.g. meetings, [https://blog.mozilla.org/webdev/2014/04/02/enabling-communities-iterating-on-the-get-involved-page/ blogs], etherpads, surveys, mail lists, card sorting, MozCamps, etc.) and will continue to do so. Please check back on this wiki page for updates.

= Prototype Testing =
Structure provides a foundation to move forward and succeed. We need your input and we have provided an easy structure for you to share that with us so we can be sure to incorporate it in the evaluation of a final design – we don’t want your valuable feedback getting lost in overflowing email inboxes.

There are 3 early prototypes which have been created from a history of working with the community on this project. Each one has a distinct approach different from the others, for testing purposes. Please use the following Survey Gizmo link to provide your feedback (links to prototypes are in the survey): http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1747304/Feedback-Get-Involved-Prototypes When doing so, remember to approach this page from the perspective of a potential contributor. We are specifically checking for how easy, clear and compelling it is to get involved. Please submit your feedback by the morning of Monday, August 4th.

Please use the following Survey Gizmo link to provide your feedback: [link coming soon] When doing so, remember to approach this page from the perspective of a potential contributor. We are specifically checking for how easy, clear and compelling it is to get involved. Please submit your feedback by the morning of Monday, August 4th.

We have involved the community on this project so far (e.g. meetings, [https://blog.mozilla.org/webdev/2014/04/02/enabling-communities-iterating-on-the-get-involved-page/ blogs], etherpads, surveys, mail lists, MozCamps, etc.) and will continue to do so. We need your input and we have provide an easy structure for you to share that with us so we can be sure to incorporate it in the evaluation of a final design – we don’t want your valuable feedback getting lost in overflowing email inboxes.
There are 3 early prototypes which have been created from a history of working with the community on this project. Each one has a distinct approach different from the others, for testing purposes. Please use the following Survey Gizmo link to provide your feedback: [link coming soon]
==Contribution is our #1 metric==
The steering committee has set a goal of '''ten times growth''' by the end of 2014.

We want to work with new and current contributors. Learn more about how their pathways to contribution

==What constitutes a contribution pathway?==

* '''Targeting interest:''' through get involved, a regional group, or a specific product
* '''Maintaining interest:''' through systems that funnel from participant to contributor
* '''Following through on interest:''' developing mentorship and new opportunities that challenge and motivate contributors and participants

=2014 Priorities=

What are we SHIPPING to support these goals and bring in more people? What are contributors helping us build?

== Priority 1 ==
Core, foundational work that blocks other priorities

Working definition of a pathway that we can move forward with

What makes a strong pathway?

Review all the existing pathways (functional and regional) and see what needs to be done

Go through current requests for pathways ('''other''' section of Contribute)

Understand how regional pathways can foster and nurture volunteers

Initial refresh of "Get Involved" page

== Priority 2 ==
What we will tackle first.

Define criteria for Contributor Management System

Build CMS that satisfies all stakeholders

Make a plan for what we are going to offer for people who are building pathways

* People everywhere will get together for a one-hour introduction to computer science -- to demystify "code" and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, creator and innovator.
* [https://blog.webmaker.org/hour_of_code Webmaker has projects, teaching guides, and ways to get involved here].
* Stay tuned for more in a lightning presentation from Lainie DeCoursy.
The limit is 3 minutes per speaker. It's like a lightning talk, but don't feel that you have to have slides in order to make a presentation. If you plan on showing a video, you need to contact the Air Mozilla team before the day of the meeting or you will be deferred to the next week.
