What's new in Firefox 126

Firefox Desktop

Guidance notification on how to set Firefox as a default browser (Windows only)
Description: Users are no longer able to set Firefox as the default browser with one click – Windows is forcing users to navigate to the Windows Setting. In response, we are planning to land a "Guidance notification" in Fx126 to help educate users in the process and on the notifications there is a "show me how" that will lead to a SUMO page to explain.

String changes - add-ons > extensions
Description: All “add-ons” copy will be changed to “extensions” moving forward.

Known studies/experiments

Platform Studies/experiments Description
iOS App Customization in iOS Adding lightmode/darkmode and the option to choose your toolbar location during onboarding in the hopes to drive Daily Active Users. This is rolling out to 50% of all users.
iOS Splash screen Experiment Splashscreen has an animation, and it will be displayed for an X amount of minutes in order to allow app to load experiments. This is only shown on very first launch of app. For accessibility, we will show the animation in slow motion. This is also rolling out to 50% of all users. Please keep an eye out of users reporting about app slowness.

  • Firefox for Android Nightly: The team is testing a change to video streaming in Firefox for Android Nightly. If you see any Nightly users report problems with video streaming, it might be related to this change (discussion thread).

Resolution/workaround: Workaround for iOS 126.1 that still see x.com blocked:

Desktop language pack issue

Resolution/workaround: Updating to 126.0.1 should solve the issue. Otherwise, users on 126.0 will be able to resolve this issue by using the 126.0.2 langpacks.
