WHY
Title Contribution_Challenge_Title::Mobile Webmaker
Short Description
Include a tweet-length summary description of the challenge.
Contribution_Challenge_Short_Description::What do the next billion web users want? Collect real information about what problems the next billion users want to solve and how to improve mobile Webmaker to address those needs.
Wiki Page
If your project is documented on Mozilla Wiki, where?

Context
Does this challenge cover the entire initiative? Or does this challenge cover a subset or one piece of the overall program? Use this section to inspire, enable and support our volunteer communities to have real impact on our mission, starting with our 2014 goals.
[[Contribution_Challenge_Context::Mozilla already has a major initiative to enable local content creation, both with technology (Webmaker for Mobile), partnerships (GSMA and operators), and educational curriculum (Webmaker, web literacy). One of the critical things we know we need however is to ensure that the apps we build for users around the world work for those people, solve their needs, help them succeed. And we can’t do that without good, on-the-ground research about what real people need, want, etc.

This is why we want to invite the whole Mozilla community worldwide to be part of this project, and allow users from all over the world to have a voice in how we build Webmaker for Mobile.

We don’t just want to build a product for the next billion, we want to build it with them.

This challenge is a significant part of the ground-research for Webmaker for Mobile. It will help us gather insights from a wide range of countries and benefit from the volunteer’s local expertise, leading to a better product.]]

Impact Goal
Why would this motivate our volunteers?
2014 Goals::Grow Adoption of Webmaker
Motivation [[Contribution_Challenge_Motivation::This challenge enables volunteers to have a real impact on the things we think are most important to Mozilla's mission.

This challenge helps integrate volunteers into the areas where employees are focused, which means more support, resources, and training become natural. Areas of scale and asynchronous activities are areas where volunteers can demonstrate leadership in ways that matter to all mozillians. This challenge enables volunteers to develop new valuable skills in research, testing and participatory design. This challenge enables volunteers to have a positive impact on the future of the web in emerging countries.]]

WHAT
Problem Statement
What do we want people to do.
Contribution_Challenge_Problem_Statement::i) conduct interviews and ii) host user testing events that include interviews
HOW
Approach
What’s the approach? Do you have an existing process, system or framework to guide the contribution? What tools and resources will the community be provided?
[[Contribution_Challenge_Approach::I. Get user feedback about Appmaker.

II. Help learners understand what’s possible on the web.

  • Contact collaborators and inject Webmaker Mobile Party plan into partners’ upcoming events.
  • Draft simple teaching kit. 15min. chunks. Includes Entry / exit interviews.

Webmaker for Mobile demo and user testing.

  • Review teaching kit with an instructional designer (Sahid)
  • Betatest the teaching kit. Preferably with partners. Iterate. (contribution here!)
  • Train people on how to run the script. Target Reps and Webmaker Mentors at Mozfest. (contribution here!)
  • Make a dashboard / report back system to assess the leadership and community building capacity of the training and efforts. Helps to demonstrate at what level the Reps Program is along CB > Leadership Academy. (Rosana)
  • Run events with partners. And encourage rest of community to join in. (contribution here!)]]
Metrics
How will you measure both completion and positive impact?

Skills and experiences to support volunteers (from employees)
What particular skill set is required or desired to support the volunteers [presumably this is from employees] to support this activity ? What skills will be taught and improved?

WHEN
Est Launch Date
When do you expect this project to be live?
Contribution_Challenge_Launch_Date::2014/10/24
Timeframe
When does the work need to start and stop? Can the work be done asynchronously or does it need to be a coordinated effort?
Contribution_Challenge_Timeframe::test
WHERE
Location
Are there specific regions where the work needs to happen? Can the work be done in a distributed manner? Or do contributors all need to be in the same place?
Contribution_Challenge_Location::test
Events
What events can or should play a role in this project? This can be a work week, a Mozilla event, or a 3rd party event. An event also does not need to be part of this challenge. The work might be able to be completed outside of or independent of an event. Events should be a supportive aspect for the challenges and might be central for only a few challenges.
