In (South-)Eastern Asian countries like Japan, Korean, Vietnam... the last name/surname/family name comes first. However, in Vietnam, people '''never''' call someone by their surname, even in formal situations, because, for instance, "Nguyễn" is the surname for over 40% of Vietnamese people! So, you should just call me "Hùng" or, in formal situations, "Mr. Hùng" :)


However, in order not to confuse the foreigners, some people write their names reversely and/or use English/Latin nicknames. For ex, I used to write my names as "Hùng Nguyễn", "Williams Nguyễn" or "Williams Hùng Nguyễn"... The Western order is also common for overseas Vietnamese.

However, a difference from other countries is people never address a Vietnamese person by their surname even in formal situations, due to the fact that the "Nguyễn" surname alone is accounted for 40% of the people.

For expample, "Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng": "Nguyễn" is the surname, "Mạnh" is the middle name, "Hùng" is the first name.
