How are you currently involved with the community?: Shane: Within Labs I focus on aspects of social networking, with a strong interest in privacy and security issues, as features in Firefox or in online services. I've been with Mozilla since 2010, starting in Mozilla Messaging, and have been building software on top of Mozilla software since 2001.

Summary: With the SocialAPI, services can create an immersive social experience for their users in Firefox. This session will cover goals and possible directions for social functionality in Firefox, provide an understanding of the architecture and introduce developers to the building blocks they can use to create a SocialAPI provider.
How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals:
SocialAPI will be one of the drivers for increasing Firefox Desktop adoption. Developer awareness and community involvement are important to helping SocialAPI be successful.
Expected Outcome or Deliverable:
Awareness and understanding of the SocialAPI, where it's going and how to use it, as well as increasing community involvement and feedback. People wishing to integrate with the SocialAPI will come out with an understanding of the overall architecture and the building blocks needed to build their own provider.
Desired Audience Type or Skill-set:
Developer focused, but anyone interested in understanding how to create a SocialAPI provider is welcome.
