There are currently some things which are unsatisfactory about the way licensing information and credit information are presented in Firefox. This page draws together all the issues, and attempts to present a unified solution.

Problems:

  • There is duplicated but non-identical information on "about:" and in the Help | About box (Firefox only) (Bug 328563)
  • There are two sets of credits - about:credits and those in Help | About | Credits. This is divisive. (Bug 277119)
  • There are l10n issues with the text in the credits.xhtml file.
  • The Thunderbird link to about:credits doesn't even work (chrome:// URL opening error).
  • You can't access about:license in Thunderbird; it doesn't even ship (Bug 339117)

Proposed solution:

  • Either unify about: and Help | About, so that going to the URL about: brings up the Help | About dialog. (Firefox only)
  • Or make about: and Help | About have the same content, as follows.
  • Make the text on Help | About read (pseudo-markup):
