    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=1" title="Edit section: Summary">edit</a>] Summary

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=2" title="Edit section: Mission">edit</a>] Mission

Mozillians.org makes the Mozilla contributor base feel smaller by creating an easy way to learn who is involved, what they do and how to connect with them.

    Objectives

    1. Mozillians will have a public profile that outlines their activities across all of Mozilla's communities.
    2. People will be able to find and message Mozillians within specific geographic locations and communities.
    3. Provide a basic of set of metrics for our community.

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=3" title="Edit section: Context">edit</a>] Context

Mozilla has progressed from its beginnings as a set of 100's contributors of technical leads into a group of 1000's. We lack information on our current contributor base and there is a <a href="/Mozillians/Needs_Opportunities" title="Mozillians/Needs Opportunities">significant opportunity loss</a> from our inability to seamlessly get new contributors involved—we’re seeing this across numerous segments (i.e. Development, Localization, SUMO, QA, Creative Collective, Marketing, Campus Reps and MDC).

In short, here are the following known problems:

    1. Contributors have an extremely difficult time understanding how to get involved.
    2. Mozilla does not have a clear idea of who our contributors are.
    3. We do not know how many active contributors there are in the Mozilla community.
    4. It is impossible to determine a comprehensive view of what each contributor has contributed.

Many <a href="/Mozilla_CRM" title="Mozilla CRM">have tried</a> or are currently trying their own solutions to fix this problem, but all lack a broad and well-scoped contributor-centric approach. Gerv is developing a phonebook (i.e. “Domesday”) solution that should work as a collection mechanism that will solve the first problem. But what we still need to solve is a solution that determines how the phonebook fits into a broader effort to bring new contributors into Mozilla. The purpose of this project is to outline a plan that aims to do just that.

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=4" title="Edit section: Tools">edit</a>] Tools

Mozillians.org is comprised of a collection of tools built to enhance engagement from our contributor base. An introduction and explanation of what each tool is and does can be found in the following wikis:

    1. <a href="/Mozillians/Releases/1.0#Designs_.26_Requirements" title="Mozillians/Releases/1.0">Phonebook</a>
    2. <a href="/Mozillians/TaskBoard" title="Mozillians/TaskBoard">TaskBoard</a>

If you have comments, questions, suggestions or ideas, feel free to join the discussion at:

Note: the mailing list, newsgroup and Google group are all linked so if you post to one it will get sent to the other ones as well. This allows people to use the discussion tools of their choice.

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=6" title="Edit section: Sign-up">edit</a>] Sign-up

Although the site is not live yet, we will be happy to let you know when it is. If you send us your email address, we'll contact you when you can set up your profile.

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=7" title="Edit section: Brownbag">edit</a>] Brownbag

On August 18, we'll be hosting a brownbag to talk about what the phonebook is, how you can use it and how you can get involved. If you can't make it, we'll post the video here to watch later. Join us at:

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=9" title="Edit section: Repositories">edit</a>] Repositories

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=10" title="Edit section: Documents">edit</a>] Documents

The site will be built on a new open source community directory web app and will be customized to fit the specific needs of the Mozilla community.

    [<a href="/index.php?title=Mozillians&action=edit&section=12" title="Edit section: Roadmap">edit</a>] Roadmap

The site will be built over a series of phases. Our current thinking about milestones is below:

    • <a href="/Mozillians/Milestones/Phase1" title="Mozillians/Milestones/Phase1">Phase1 Roadmap</a> (initial launch)
    • <a href="/Mozillians/Milestones/Phase2" title="Mozillians/Milestones/Phase2">Phase2 Roadmap</a> (determine and grow retention)
    • <a href="/Mozillians/Milestones/Phase3" title="Mozillians/Milestones/Phase3">Phase3 Roadmap</a> (determine and grow contributor base)
    • <a href="/Mozillians/Milestones/Phase4" title="Mozillians/Milestones/Phase4">Phase4 Roadmap</a> (determine and grow community education)

Other information related to planning can be found on our initial planning etherpad <a href="http://etherpad.mozilla.com:9000/mozillians-planning" class="external text" rel="nofollow">Mozillians planning etherpad</a>
