Store bookmarks on a server (aka Remote bookmarks, online bookmarks)

Because I regularly use Firefox from four different computers, I'd love to store all of my bookmarks on a server. This could be extended to storing configuration data on a server, particularly which plugins I'm using and how they're configured. It's a nuisance to have to enter bookmarks and install plugins four times over!

Of course some configuration information still needs to be machine specific (local proxy settings, etc).

Which server to use ? It'd be nice to use a light weight protocol so that almost anyone could easily set up a suitable server.

Which protocol ? It's not my area, but I'd guess https would be fine for reading bookmarks from a server. For uploading, ftp ? I don't know, it's not my area.

Security ? Of course security would be required, to allow people to keep their bookmarks and configuration private.
