Open issues/risks

`

Stage 1: Definition

1. Feature overview

Choosing colors visually makes good sense, and a color picker would be a nice addition to our tools that let users change colors.

2. Users & use cases

`

3. Dependencies

`

4. Requirements

  1. Choose color in common color wheel style
  2. be able to convert between color units
  3. integration with the Style Editor and Style Inspector

Optional:

  1. Palette displayed from colors on the current page
  2. have a pane for creating gradients

Non-goals

It is not necessary that this color picker be the same as the one used for input type="color".

Stage 2: Design

5. Functional specification

This Color Picker vs. type="color"

HTML5 defines an input type of "color" which can provide the user with a color picker. bug 547004 is for implementing this HTML5 element.

Using this work will give us a quick way to choose a color, but not necessarily the best way.

Non-developer users just want to pick a color visually. Developers may want to be able to paste in color values from elsewhere or quickly pick from the colors already on the page.

6. User experience design
