Goals

Create Mozilla-hosted release channels for Beta and GA releases of Fennec, where users can download and install Firefox for Android without having to go through another app store.

  • Users who download through these channels should receive all updates to the browser, as normal.

What's needed?

  • Web landing pages or links for Beta and GA Firefox for Android releases (presumably as part of the http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/ site?)
  • PR/Marketing involvement for when these are available
  • Build & release - update channels

Justification

  • Not all Android users can use the Google Play store, so we want to provide an official, Mozilla-controlled alternative so we can reach these users and ensure they receive all browser updates.

Quality criteria

  • No user-perceptible performance degradation
  • All goals are met
  • All user stories are implemented & tested
