Agenda:
Report back from Iteration 44.1 (last two weeks)
- Product
- PLR (product line review) last week, deep dive on add-ons. Slides will be shared with staff later this week
- Going all in on personalization, recognizing that add-ons tell the future of the product.
- Feedback from SCVP: Overall very well received. Needs to be a narrative around extending customization of product, but also how we’re protecting users. How to use add-ons properly, protect from malicious add-ons.
- Engineering
- Set up iteration meetings, all in Add-ons Calendar.
- Have we welcomed mstriemer yet? If not welcome.
- Metrics dashboard (for AMO site performance, add-on lifecycles, etc) up and running [kumar] quick demo, maybe?
- http://mozilla.github.io/amo-dashboard/ (requires VPN)
- JS validator, framework in place [tofumatt] quick demo, maybe?
- A pile of improvements to submission, tracker now closed.
- Android and Langpack signing on the next push
- One last addition: jquery security upgrade
- Ammo
- Hired new AMO contractor (but also had Andreas on PTO so still at a net resource loss)
- Amy did lots of work building the new Contribute page (not finalized yet): https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Contribute
- New getting started page for FxOS add-ons: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox_OS/Add-ons/Getting_started
- Wrote WebExtensions segment for the Apps and Hacks newsletter (50k subscribers)
- Other teams present who want to share?
Plans for Iteration 44.2 (next two weeks)
- Product
- Add-on signing doesn’t go away, turned up in 43, so we need a good picture of what the release channel looks like. ** In advance of the telemetry landing, we’re working on that.
- Consumer side:. Making it easier to discover add-ons.
- For the next bi-weekly, we’ll have a nice documented roadmap!
- From the Developer side: developers need to understand the submission process, and product needs to work with UX on this. signing is a big part of it, looking at discovery, addons manager, developer mode, and user stories for that. FxOs Add-ons are launching in beta now!
- WebExtensions - comparing what we have now with where we want to be, so we can declare the plan for 1.0
- Engineering
- Push going out this week with a jquery update for AMO, fixes 9 bugs!
- Signing API at command line. Goal: be in production by the release of Firefox 42.
- Web Extensions: bugs filed, people getting their feet wet.
- Hiring, one good candidate in the pipe
- NoScript
- 44.2 iteration planning: http://mzl.la/1VBRTsL
- Firefox Accounts: setting a plan for FxA
- JS validator: getting first rules in place.
- Unsigned add-ons: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1209338
- Note: these are a subset of the “developer mode” concept
- Goals for Engineering for Q4: https://etherpad-mozilla.org/q4-engineering-goals
- Ammo
- FxOS add-ons beta launch
- Clarify confidential code submission policy to avoid signing formal NDAs
- Update and simplify add-on policy docs.
- Reviewing and merging some add-ons policy docs for clarity and brevity as well as discussing changes to the add-ons dev agreement with legal
- Onboard new reviewers (expect 2 or 3 volunteers and 2 or 3 employees).
Q&A and other business
- Would like to have regular (or semi-regular) presenters on Add-ons topics at the Monday project meeting, so look out for the schedule.
- Quick note on program management - next week we will welcome Shell Escalante as Larissa’s co-epm
- Anything else on Q4 goal coordination? Plan to be locked by Friday
- Demos if we have time! (no time, sad, will add time to this meeting)
- https://youtu.be/9o58O5c7e_M (because we didn’t have time.)
Actions:
- Everyone please talk to Larissa about your Q4 goals by FRIDAY (Oct 9)
