ABOUT US

The Mozilla Creative Collective

The Creative Collective is a community of artists and designers inspired
by the Mozilla ideals of openness, innovation and progress.

We believe in the power of well-made and widely distributed art, and
want to make it possible for artists to cover the web with designs
inspired by Mozilla and the principles we stand for. We also want to
showcase the talents of our members by giving them the opportunity
to share their work with a global audience.

To do this, we've created an online social environment where designers
and non-designers alike can connect and collaborate in a positive,
communal manner. Where things go from here is up to you, but we're
looking forward to seeing what happens.

We’d love to have you join us!

Frequently Asked Questions

The Mozilla Foundation

We’re a global community of people who sincerely believe in the
power of technology to enrich people’s lives.

We're a public benefit organization dedicated not to making money
but to improving the way people experience the Internet.

We’re also an open source software project whose code has been used
as a platform for some of the Internet’s most innovative projects.

The common thread that runs throughout Mozilla is our belief that, as
the most significant social and technological development of our time,
the Internet is a public resource that must remain open and accessible
to all. With this in mind, our efforts are ultimately driven by our mission
of encouraging choice, innovation and opportunity online.

To achieve these goals, we use a highly transparent, extremely
collaborative process that brings together thousands of dedicated
volunteers around the world with our small staff of employees to
coordinate the creation of products like the Firefox web browser.

In the end, the Mozilla community, organization and technology is all
focused on a single goal: making the Internet better for everyone.

THE TOOLKIT

The purpose of the toolkit is to provide you, the artist, with all of the tools you might need
to create your masterpiece(s).

Monet wouldn’t dare paint without an array of brushes and a palette.
Rodin couldn’t even begin to sculpt without an armature and a chisel.
So why should you be expected to create your work without the proper resources?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Mozilla Creative Collective?

The Mozilla Creative Collective (MCC) is a community of artists and designers inspired
by Mozilla’s ideals of openness, innovation, and progress. It is also a space where
designers and non-designers alike can connect and collaborate in a positive, communal
manner on a global scale.

Do I have to be a professional graphic designer to participate in the MCC?

Not at all. The Creative Collective is open to anyone who wants to
participate. We encourage submissions from all levels of design experience.
Creativity can come from anywhere!

What is the inspiration behind, and goal of, the Mozilla Creative Collective?

Mozilla is a community-driven organization - everything from development to marketing
to testing and much more is done with the support of the community. Contributions to
Mozilla projects come from practically every corner of the globe. These volunteers are
dedicated to furthering the overarching goal of Mozilla - making the Internet better for
everyone. An important area that has traditionally lacked an organized community has
been visual design, which is why we initiated the Creative Collective.

Our goal is to inspire people to contribute their talents to the Mozilla cause, and to
cultivate the benefits of being a part of a community. We are not trying to get out of
paying artists for their work. Rather, we think that the Creative Collective is the next
logical step in the development of the greater Mozilla community.

With that being said, we believe there are plenty of incentives for artists to contribute to
this community - including the exposure to a global graphic design community that the
MCC provides. In the end, the Creative Collective is a community built for the artists.

What tools do I need to create my artwork?

Designs must be submitted in electronic form, so you'll need the right software to get started.
If you need help, check out our Toolkit page for some recommendations.

How many designs can I submit?

Creativity has no limits, and neither does the Creative Collective. You can submit as
many designs as you'd like.

What file format should I use?

Please save your files as.jpg, .gif, or .png. Files must be less than 8MB. However, the
higher the resolution the better!

What should I put in my artist profile?

It’s up to you. The Creative Collective is a portal for designers to showcase
their work. It is also an environment where artists have the ability to make contacts
and connect with other artists. Your profile is a place for you to share some insight
on the artist behind the artwork. For example, information about your background,
artistic style and influences would be interesting - and if you have a portfolio site,
blog, Twitter account, etc, be sure to add those details as well.

What are badges?

Badges are digital icons awarded to members of the Creative Collective for different
levels of contributions, and will be publicly displayed on member profiles for all to see.
Badges can be earned in many different ways:
[See gallery image for badge description mock-up - arranged in a 3x2 matrix - below is badge info text]

The Founder - Joining the Creative Collective within the first week of launch

The Creative Pioneer - Joining the Creative Collective within the first month of launch

The Pixel Charmer - Design has received 25+ "likes"

The Critic - Commented on 25+ designs

Laudable Contributor - Having 10+ design submissions

Rock Star - An artist with 25+ "fans"

What should I do if I see inappropriate/misused content on the MCC?

Report it. On every artwork page there is an option to "Flag This Design." If you see
artwork that is inappropriate, offensive, plagiarized or is being misused, please flag it.
We are relying on you, the community, to help us maintain the integrity of the Creative
Collective.

How do I get in touch with the MCC team?

Check out the Contact Us page if you need to get in touch with us directly.
