Mozilla Social/London:Oct2010/Planning

Planning page for a Mozilla Social event in London at some point in October 2010

Things to do

Venue

Events need a venue, this one does not have one yet, lets list possible venues that may be possible to host such an event with people from across the UK. Note it should be in London as  this is easy enough for most people to get to and to find acomodation if needed.

  • The Hub Kings-Cross
    • Has been used for Mozilla events before
    • Has nearby accomodation
    • Has its own WiFi network that can be utilised
    • Is of a reasonable size
    • Has equiptment for presentations. Saves anyone having to bring any
    • http://kingscross.the-hub.net/public/
  • There Studio
  • {venue idea 3}

Date

The event is currently planned for mid october so as to avoid clashing with any of the below events as well as to be far enough away from christmas that people wont be too busy to be able to attend

  • Oct 1-2, New York City, Open Video Conference
  • Mozilla Social here somewhere
  • Oct 28-29, Toronto, FSOSS
  • Nov 4-6, Barcelona, Drumbeat Festival 2010
  • Nov 5-7, Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit (FSCONS)

Food / Drink

Event is likely to be in the eventing. So maybe a buffett with enough for people to have a plate full of food to substitute for a full meal.

WiFi

Should be able to support at least 100 people with moderate ease. Currently unknown how many people there are in the UK that would be interested in attending such an event.

Materials

As this event is to be the first Mozilla Social, and is to help kick start a more formalised and organised UK community it is probably worth while having name tags.

Name tags should include the participants name, where in the UK they are based, and what area of the community they help in. Laminated templates may be the way to go.

Swag

Just some of the smaller things like pin badges and lanyars. FuzzyFox should be able to supply enough for 100 people without the need to get anything sent from overseas.

T-shirts for Donations?

Maybe get a box load of shirts for people to take away for a donation to the Mozilla Foundation or even to help cover the costs of the event.

Speakers

Some people from Mozilla Europe maybe.

Everyone should be able to be a speaker in the "getting to know you" section.
