obligatory disclaimer: this is not the plan of record just what i've gleaned. Plan of Record is elsewhere (github, bugzilla, trello :-) and my apologies for linking to documents that volunteers can't read, i wish we didn't have to do that!)

Pocket Stories is a subset of Activity Stream and is an MVP and is on Firefox Desktop 57 as well as Firefox for Android 57 as well as Firefox for iOS 10.

TL;DR Canadian users get Pocket Stories on Desktop and FF for iOS but not Android (if and only if their locale is set to en-CA which is not possible in certain Android OS versions)

Firefox for iOS Version 10

  • Activity Stream aka Pocket Stories (trello card) - depends on Desktop. If Desktop decides to NOT GO then this will affect Firefox for iOS and Firefox for Android.
    • UPDATE 09November2017 It's a go. Activity Stream for iOS goes to the following locales: "de", "de-AT","de-CH","de-DE","en-GB","en-US", "en-ZA" (AND "en-CA" unlike Android and Desktop, warning i had to set my both language and region to non Canada e.g. Australia to turn off AS Pocket Stories; if you just set region to Canada and leave the language at Australia you will get Pocket Stories in FFIOS10 because of FFIOS10 bug?!?)

Firefox for Android Version 57

tested beta 15 by changing Android Locale not Firefox Locale which is something like this for Android 7.1.1 on Samsung Note 8: Android Setting->General Management->Language and Input->Language

  • Google Pixel, Android 8, there is a toggle for "Recommended by Pocket" if locale is en-us; if locale is en-ca, no toggle which is CORRECT
  • Samsung Note 8, Android 7.1.1, no toggle (screenshot: https://flic.kr/p/21aaPrJ ) if locale is English (Canada); if locale is English (United States) there is a toggle which is CORRECT
  • Google Nexus 5, Android 6.0.1, there is a toggle for "Recommended by Pocket" if locale is English (United States); hilariously there is not English (Canada) but if if the locale is English (Australia) there is no toggle which is CORRECT
  • HTC One M7, Android 5, there is a toggle for "Recommended by Pocket" and there is only 1 English, English (United States) and no other form of English; if i set it to Français, there is no toggle which is CORRECT
  • Samsung S3, Android 4.4, no toggle - not sure if this is correct, the default on my S3 was English (no Canadian English) and no toggle; I then set it to German in Firefox no toggle; and then I restarted the phone and I saw the toggle in German! and then set it back to English in Firefox and there was a toggle.
