We have been discussing this issue in the recent planning meeting, we think replacing the current products and download pages with the new projects page (with a redirect) solves part of this, we might later go and replace the Mozilla 1.x page with something like what http://www.mozilla.org/start/ has, i.e. pointing people to Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey instead.
