::Here's another idea: instead of the MSIE7-style double-carets to access the extra options that don't fit at the end of each row (character encoding etc.) you could have a right-arrow scroll icon which would scroll through the list of icons if they don't fit on the screen (in the same way as the scroll icons that appear when you have a lot of tabs open and they don't all fit on the screen). Similarly to the tabs you could have a drop-down arrow which would show a boring menu containing the complete list of options for each row.
