Notes

• This project is to get the open web into the enterprise and education areas of out day to day lives.
• The education aspect is merely a tweak of the enterprise program but with the support of Camps Student Reps, as a large number of educational institutions are run a lot like businesses and so the main desicions on network computers etc, are more business oriented than say the desicions made directly about the education of students.
• The project needs to relate not only to those making the decisions but also to the staff who will end up benifiting from the open web. Lets get them on our side
  • For education we need to get not only the staff, but the teachers and students too.
  • For both cases we need a multi level plan of attack that provides a unified solution that we may have to compromise on to start with. (say a more open web than the completely open web)
• The project will likely rely quite heavily on information packs for each level.
  • one for IT services who would have to roll this out accross their network
  • one for the management on benefits they will experience directly and in-directly
  • one for staff on how it will improve their working life
    • in the case of education there would also need to be one for teachers and one for students
• All letters / information packs should be part of the complete picture that include an overview of the others so that the receipients can see that this is one solution for the whole group and not many different implimentations
• In the case of education we need to find ways of locking down about:config and the likes that are quick and easy. As well as ways to push Firefox across an entire network at once.
• We should also provide recomendations for other software that may be of benifit to x,y,z organisation that are open and get in contact with the makers of these software packages.
