AppDays/Kolkata AppDay in a Box 2013

The event will comprise of showcasing Mozilla tools especially Firefox OS, Firefox OS Simulator and developing apps for Firefox OS. Participants will be encouraged to come up with prototypes of their app ideas or finish any app they were working on.

  • Time of event: 9am - 1pm

Registration

Mozilla Reps and Mozillians are required to register at http://goo.gl/WWy1oR. Put your organization name as "Mozilla".

Target of the event

  • Have participants create working prototypes, or
  • Those who have prototypes ready, have them complete their apps, or
  • Those who have their apps in other platforms, help them port their apps to Firefox OS.

Schedule

First half

  • Introduction to Mozilla and its mission - Sumantro (10 mins)
  • Introduction to Firefox OS, Simulator and Developer Tools - Kaustav (20 mins)
  • Introduction to WebAPI and Marketplace - Jai Pradeesh (20 mins)
  • Ask people to put their app ideas on an etherpad. Help them with their ideas (15 mins)
  • Let the hacking begin! (55 mins)

Second half

  • Hacking continues (60 mins)
  • Review (60 mins)

Strategy

Volunteers will spread among participants and help them with their app ideas and help them prototype. Try to engage your audience. If you don't know the answer to any specific, find someone who could. Don't try to give a wrong answer to something you don't know!

Collect app ideas on an etherpad. Put the etherpad public when people are typing their app ideas. Etherpad to contain etherpad etiquettes and sample fillup structure. Encourage participants with similar app ideas to group up as a team.Those who have working prototypes get an AppDay tshirt.

We need to followup with promising developers.
