This document describes our plans for transferring ownership of the Dev Derby contest to the Majken (Kensie) Connor, who will be supported by the Mozilla community. This document will be updated if these plans change.
Timeline
| Month | Activity |
|---|---|
| July | Mozilla Corporation manages final contest. |
| August | Contest hiatus begins. July winners are announced. |
| September | Kensie prepares to take ownership of Dev Derby. |
| October | Kensie prepares to take ownership of Dev Derby. |
| November | Kensie manages first contest. |
Responsibilities
After Kensie takes ownership of the contest (November), we expect the following responsibilities to be upheld.
Kensie
Kensie will be responsible for the following activities. Of course, she may delegate some specific tasks as needed.
- Choose interesting and challenging contest themes
- Update the Dev Derby website with contest information, including contest descriptions the themes of upcoming contests
- Recruit judges, and work with them to choose contest winners
- Announce winners and send them their prizes (maybe using the Gear Store)
- Spread the word about contests within the web development community
Mozilla Corporation
- Support Kensie during this transition process
- Review and approve content changes to the Dev Derby website (example)
- Announce these plans on Mozilla Hacks before the July contest begins
Possible changes
Kensie has considered changing some aspects of the contest to make her work more manageable. These ideas are not set in stone. We plan to allow Kensie to own these decisions, and any other decisions about changing the contest in the future.
- Run contests less frequently, maybe quarterly
- Announce winners and award small prizes regularly, but award larger prizes (like phones) only rarely, maybe once per year
