Support the Mozilla Mission by surfacing & creating relevant content and resources for developers

  • Rebrand site to provide a cohesive developer identity for Mozilla, that pulls together the currently diverse set of developer-facing websites and programs under a revamped Mozilla Developer Network brand.
    • Interim homepage and nav improvements to highlight web apps and Firefox OS [Q2, done]
    • Full site redesign - design information architecture, content structure [planned for Q3]
    • Intgrate DevHub content and functionality [planned for Q3]
    • Integrate github [planned for Q4]
  • Produce content required to support the Firefox OS product launch - WebAPI's, Apps, foundational technologies, Firefox OS
    • Core documentation for building, porting, debugging on (and of), and developing and testing applications for Firefox OS [ongoing, goals met for for Q1 & Q2]
    • WebAPI's fully documented [ongoing, goals met for for Q1 & Q2]
    • Complete documentation for submitting apps to marketplace, handling in-app payments, and using any developer-facing tools for tracking sales [ongoing, goals met for for Q1 & Q2]
    • Localization of core Firefox OS and Web API documentation into Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese [Q3 & Q4}
  • Improve MDN platform to allow improvements to user experience and performance
    • Live code samples [Q1, done]
    • Improve syntax highlighting [Q2, done]
    • Embeddable Video [Q2, done]
    • Elastic Search [Q1 backend done, Q2 front end due end July]

  • Continue to grow traffic and improve SEO placement for MDN
    • Increase MDN traffic by 30% [on track]
    • Consistently on 1st page of Google results for Javascript, HTML & CSS [on track]

Engage the developer community across technologies and grow Mozilla contribution

  • Build innovative and engaging programs to encourage contribution and participation
    • Doc Reps Program - 10 Reps by end of year [Q4]
    • 2 Community-led doc sprints [Q1 & Q2, done]
  • Improve site features to encourage & support community participation and content contribution
    • Revision Dashboard [Q1, done]
    • Localization dashboards [planned for August]
    • Improved user banning [Q2, done]
    • Per-Page access controls [due August]
    • Metrics improvements [due Q4]
  • Outreach to developers through events, communications, community
    • Target events in regions/countries with strong Mozilla communities, lots of developers, but low participation in MDN [Q3 & Q4]
    • Focus on training current community to reach out to their local developers, promote MDN, hold MDN events [ongoing]
