Mozilla Festival 2012: ReMo

A yearly festival with hundreds of passionate people exploring the Web, learning together, and making things that can change the world.

Making, Freedom and the Web
November 9 - 11, 2012 | #mozfest
London, UK | Ravensbourne

Goals

We share all the same goals as the Festival, however we also have a few more of our own, as well as some we should focus on slightly more. So here they are:

  1. Make things with the tools Mozilla and others are creating
  2. Learn who is building what, how we can share and help each other
  3. Fuel leaders who want to invent, teach and organize
  4. Teach the way of the Mozillian
  5. Grow Mozilla and encourage attendees to contribute on a permanent basis

ReMo Roles

Mozilla Drumbeat Festival 2010 Volunteers.jpg

You will get the chance to attend the event for free and be part of the great MozFest community, but be warned... these positions will all require you to interact with many a stranger. All of whom have the potential to blow your mind with awesomeness!

Check-out the ReMo roles below and fill-in the form to register. NB: You must be a Mozilla Rep to register via this form.

Facilitator

A facilitator should be someone who is looking to run a session or two but primarily focus on being a Mozilla Rep, and help with other roles, rather than be a session leader at the festival. For more information on running sessions please see the Special Actions section below.

A ReMo Facilitator should also attend sessions that are related to their skill sets and help the session leader as much as possible, encourage those attending sessions to continue contributing after the festival, and hopefully contribute to Mozilla as well.

Special Actions

If you are planning on being a Facilitator at the Festival then follow the steps over on Mozilla Festival 2012: Submit a Proposal with a few minor adjustments. Firstly when submitting your session proposal via email as detailed in Step 2, cc wduyck@gmail.com to ensure that we know you are a Rep running a session.

If you wish focus on facilitating session then please make that clear when submitting your session via email, and ensure to check the "Facilitation Focused" item in the registration form below.

Webmaker Guru

You will need all your web making talent for this one. Teach people about the way of the webmaker, and how to use the new Mozilla Webmaker tools to their full potential. Not only will you teach people the way of the webmaker but you will also aim to produce webmaker makers... so you will be a webmaker maker maker!

You should be able to:

  • talk about the webmaker tools (thimble, x-ray goggles, popcorn maker) and know your way around them
  • create good documentation of simple code so that beginners can understand what's going on
  • teach basic web skills, and pass this talent on to others

Contributor Garage Roles

These guys will be manning the Contributor Garage, and a little more, at the festival. This year the Contributor Garage will be split into two.

  • The Contributor Garage
  • The Wandering Garage

In both you will be aiming to on-board some new Mozillians, however there are some differences so lets get into the details.

Contributor Mechanic

In this role you will man the Contributor Garage, where you will answer many questions about Mozilla, as well as help people with SUMO type questions, and encourage people to get involved with Mozilla on a more permanent basis.

You will:

  • promote a multitude of Mozilla projects and contribution channels
  • provide support for typical SUMO type questions
  • answer a wide range of questions about a wide range of Mozilla topics

Roadside Attendant

You will not be in one place, your job is to seek out those who are not doing anything at the end of breaks and just before sessions and help those people get involved. Get them to a session that's just right for them, talk with people about Mozilla, get peoples synapses firing, and join in with a few sessions.

You will:

  • promote a multitude of Mozilla projects and contribution channels
  • answer a wide range of questions about a wide range of Mozilla topics
  • engage with people and encourage them to join sessions
  • help session facilitators where possible

Registration (Closes Sept 1st)

Registration for Reps to attend the festival is available below, however there is only a short time left before they close... so if you are interested in attending, register first, ask questions later!

[Registration Closed]

Other ways to get involved

If none of these ReMo oriented options sound of any interest to you, and you would still like to get involved it may be worth taking a nose at the volunteer roles at the festival.
