Firefox 2.0.0.x / 3.0.x

  • Firefox 2.0.0.18 -> 3.0.4 Major Update
    • major update beta shipped last week
    • aiming for major update final on Tuesday, December 2
  • Thunderbird 2.0.0.18
    • shipped, yay!
  • Firefox 2.0.0.19 and 3.0.5
    • Now frozen but investigating one regression
    • Aiming for release in mid December after long QA period
    • Phishing Protection (uses SafeBrowsing v1 protocol) will be disabled in this version
    • Aiming for builds to start on Monday or Tuesday at the latest

  • Locked/corrupted places.sqlite is still common, also seeing a couple corrupted cookies.sqlite
  • bug 464486

3.0.4

  • New 3.0.4 issues (tracking on RRRT page):
  • Follow-up from last week's 3.0.4 issues (see 3.0.4 RRRT page):
    • more crashes (may be related to memory usage, or that could be a red herring?)
    • OSX: bug 459531
    • Windows: crash on 0x00 may be AVG8 bug 446224, Backdoor.Ulrbot.C rose a lot of places in the topcrashes list after 3.0.4 came out bug 434403.
    • Firewall blocks connectivity (Norton mostly)
    • Firefox 3.0.4 uses 100% of the CPU while idle bug 464864
    • Unsolved memory leak in windows: bug 457234?

2.0.0.18

  • Follow-up from last week's 2.0.0.18 issues:
    • Gmail loads in basic mode: large forum thread {bug 464796. Forcing https is a solution that I got working with someone in Live Chat.
      • Only one new report of this, may have been fixed on gmail's side

Firefox 3.1

Development

Beta 2

  • builds are now available and being tested
  • QA timing still being worked out, new release schedule pending
  • hoping for Dec 5th, no promises yet!

Branching Post Beta 2

  • landing backlog of patches now
  • periodically syncing to mozilla-1.9.1
  • branch will become the active development repo for Firefox 3.1 work as of Monday, and trunk (mozilla-central) will re-open to non-blockers

Beta 3

  • Beta 3 proposal (see dev.planning thread)
    • re-triage deadline Dec 4th using
      • blocker/P1 = must be fixed for next beta
      • blocker/P2 = must be fixed for release
    • deliver new blocker numbers and estimates
    • propose a schedule based on those roll ups
    • limited string change
    • no new features
    • no add-on compatibility changes
      • with exception of tab drag and drop
  • developers accepted proposal

Support

Localization

  • about:rights backport moving OK, down to zero regressed locales.
  • 3.1b2 relbranch push went with less noise this time around
  • branch repos gonna be exciting new lesson to teach
    • most apps gonna focus on 1.9.1, just fennec is not?
    • dashboard not up for 3.1 branch yet, waiting for pushlog update
  • dashboard at 240 builds, 3.2 and fennec coming up. Might hit the limits of the current design.

QA

  • QA is currently testing b2. Results here
    • signoff target late next week
  • No other new updates

Release Engineering

  • bhearsum: beta2 updates now on betatest channel
  • downtime monday morning
    • cutover version bumps, branding
    • still sorting out l10n, nightly updates, talos 1.9.2 vs tip

Evangelism

  • Add-ons mail + blog post ready to go ahead of beta 2.
  • Beta 2 list is coming together.
