List of ways that notification bar are used in Firefox 3.1 based on a search for callers to the appendNotification and showMessage methods in MXR.

  1. Password Manager (saving and changing passwords)
  2. Popup blocker (one or multiple popups blocked)
  3. Offline storage - quota warning
  4. Offline storage - permission requested
  5. Geolocation
  6. Blocked plugins
  7. Missing plugin
  8. Images blocked
  9. Refresh/redirect blocked
  10. Locked profile: "Browser Startup Error"
  11. Rights notification: "Know your rights" - "Firefox is free and open source software from the non-profit Mozilla Foundation."
  12. New feed reader
  13. Register protocol handler (discovery + success)
  14. Restart to install addons
  15. Add-on compatibility checking is disabled. You may have incompatible add-ons.
  16. Add-on update security checking is disabled. You may be compromised by updates.
  17. All add-ons have been disabled by safe mode.
  18. There are new updates available for your add-ons.
  19. New add-on has been installed
  20. No updates were found.
  21. Software installation has been disabled by your system administrator.
