Inform/Scope and Tone

In order to keep Inform focussed, it helps to define what sort of things are in scope and out of scope for the project.

In Scope

In the below, "relevant" means "relating to the Internet and policy made regarding it".

  • Explanations of relevant technical issues
  • Explanations of relevant social issues
  • Explanations of relevant policy issues from a Mozilla perspective
  • Pages which draw all of the above together in relation to a particular piece of legislation

(See the Overview page for more details on the four types of content in Inform.)

Out of Scope

  • Calls to particular action
  • Signup sheets, list gathering
  • Polemics

Tone

The aim of Inform is to be helpful. The risk of doing direct activism and advocacy inside the Inform project is that it will be pigeonholed as having a particular agenda and subsequently ignored. The tone should aim to be didactic and helpful, not polemical.
