Notes

The Herd

  • Taken down shortly after 0.1.6
  • Due to slowness of server - needed trac/hg more
  • Atul has been spending some time trying to make umc go faster
  • Some trouble is:
    • Standard feeds getting hit very often
    • Trac sessions not expiring
    • The Herd needs to be on separate machine?

Bug reporting

  • Automatic bug reporting, via report-bug command
  • Atul implemented simple webservice
  • Need to add a link/button to submit bug report from about:ubiquity

Quick-release logistics

  • Only Mozilla employees (Atul/Jono/Aza/Blair) can do releases
    • But only Atul really knows how and isn't scared by it
      • Actually, Aza does too, but Atul didn't mention this during the meeting...
  • Schedule
    • Beta released very often
    • Prodution releases every 2 weeks (preceded by 1 or more RCs)
  • Need central page for history + older revisions?

Supporting 3.0 when 3.1 is out

  • While many people will upgrade, many also won't
  • Compatability with 3.0 very important
  • We current support 3.0, 3.1, 3.2pre - with no troubles
  • Nothing major missing by supporting 3.0
  • No issues with binary components
    • nsIUbiquity (binary component) is optional, and only relevant to 3.0
    • nsIUbiquityDesktopIntegration is still highly experimental + only for mac
  • Nore buildbots - all OSes, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2
    • Try servers too? Blair to ask IT about it

New tutorial videos

  • Style similar to http://railslab.newrelic.com/scaling-rails
  • Need feedback on this style
  • Ray to play with a greenscreen with creater of above video
  • Use usability videos as a type of reference
    • What people have trouble with, when they get bored, etc

International relations

  • Start international mailing lists/group for localizers, etc
  • Need feedback on [mitcho.com/blog/projects/writing-commands-with-semantic-roles/ mitcho's semantic roles blog post]
  • Mitcho doing intro video for linguists/localizers + call for help

Ubiquity 0.1.7

  • Oops, we're late!
  • 0.1.6.1 is being pushed ASAP
    • Hotfix to unbreak ubiquity for many people

User Experience with network lag

  • Network lag/congestion - leads to bad user experience of blank screen while things load
  • Need indicator of waiting for the network
    • No technical limitations in doing so?
