Multiple Available Microsummaries

Two Yahoo! Finance microsummary definitions are included in the microsummaries patch. They both apply to stock quote pages. One displays the stock symbol and the current price of the stock (f.e. GOOG: 415.00), while the other displays the symbol and its opening, closing, and current prices (f.e. GOOG O/C/N: 411.90/410.50/415.00).

To test them, load a Yahoo! Finance stock quote page (f.e. this one for Google), then select Bookmarks -> Bookmark this Page. The Add Bookmark dialog should appear. It should contain a Summary drop-down menu. A Don't Display a Summary menu item should be the selected item in the menu.

Open the menu. It should contain two other menu items besides the selected item, one for each available microsummary, f.e.:

Don't Show a Summary
GOOG: 415.00
GOOG O/C/N: 411.90/410.50/415.00

Select the first microsummary (f.e. GOOG: 415.00) from the menu. Then select the Bookmarks Toolbar from the Visible In multi-select box. Then press the Add Bookmark button to add the bookmark to your bookmarks toolbar. The bookmark should appear on your toolbar. The label of the bookmark should be the microsummary you selected.

Navigate to a different page, then context-click the bookmark you just added and select Properties from its context menu. The Bookmark Properties dialog should reappear. The microsummary you previously selected should be the selected item in the Summary menu.

Since the page wasn't loaded when you opened the dialog this time, Firefox can't immediately generate the other available microsummary, so if you open the Summary menu quickly enough, you should see the other microsummary listed by its name ("Yahoo! Finance Stock Quote w/Open & Close") rather than its value.

Once the dialog finishes downloading the page in the background, it will generate the microsummary and update the menu item with it. If you leave the Summary menu open, you should see this happen.

Select the other microsummary. Press the Save Changes button. The Bookmark Properties dialog should disappear, and the label of the bookmark on the bookmarks toolbar should change to the microsummary you selected.

Microsummary Definition Installation

Go to the Merriam-Webster Word of the Day page, then select Bookmarks -> Bookmark this Page. The Add Bookmark dialog will open. It should contain a Summary drop-down menu. A Don't Show a Summary menu item should be the selected item in the menu.

Open the Summary menu. There should be no other option in the menu besides the Don't Show a Summary item.

Press the Cancel button to close the Bookmark Properties dialog without adding the bookmark. Go to this microsummary definitions page, which has a Merriam-Webster Word of the Day microsummary definition. Click the link on that page titled Merriam-Webster Word of the Day.

The Add Microsummary Definition dialog should appear. It should ask you "Add the following microsummary definition?" and list the Source URL of the definition as http://www.melez.com/mozilla/microsummaries/mw-word-of-day.xml.

Press the OK button. Then go back to the Merriam-Webster Word of the Day page. Select Bookmarks -> Bookmark this Page again. The Add Bookmark dialog should appear. Open the Summary menu. The menu should contain an item which displays the current word of the day. Select that item. Select the "Bookmarks Toolbar" item in the "Visible In" multi-select box.

Press the Add Bookmark button. The dialog will disappear. A bookmark to Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day page should appear on your bookmarks toolbar with the microsummary you selected as its label.
