This document is badly out of date, and does not reflect the current state of anything. We strongly encourage users to stay up to date by installing the most recent version of Firefox and allowing it to update itself through the built-in mechanism.
That built-in process does a number of important things including CPU, OS and Add-On compatibility checks before proceeding. Manually installing updates may lead to what we politely call "undefined behavior". It is difficult to imagine a situation where throwing those dice is the right thing to do.
