External images can not always be embedded, this depends on the settings of the project: it has been disabled on many of the larger Wikipedias, including the English and German, to prevent vandalism and [[w:bandwidth theft|bandwidth theft]] from other sites, but it is allowed on many other Wikimedia projects, including Meta and the Dutch Wikipedia.
