Summary

Press coverage, media relations and speaking opportunities have been a key part of Mozilla’s success to date. The PR team at Mozilla is consciously looking to expand the number of trained community spokespeople who can speak with press about their involvement in the Mozilla project.

This session provides community members with the training necessary to become effective spokespeople on behalf of Mozilla. Attendees will learn how to effectively communicate with trade, business, print and broadcast media.

Among the areas that will be covered include tips for acing interviews, how to talk to print and broadcast media, helpful pointers on how to avoid touchy issues, how to keep interviews on topic, and how to talk about Mozilla to the media.

The session focuses on:

  • Understanding your audience’s interests and expectations
  • Overview of different types of media and how to help journalists meet their objectives
  • Interview techniques through mock interviews with immediate feedback

Estimated length

2 hours of your time on Wednesday. To be eligible to take part in media opportunities, you must attend both parts of the training.

  • 60 min: Part I - Overview, presentation & discussion (1:00pm in Callaghan)
  • 60 min: Part II - Mock interviews & feedback
    • participants can choose one of the following times:

      • Session B: 3:30 - 4:30pm in Alta
