Find bar features useful to apply only to the current tab

  • Find Next.
  • Find Previous.
  • Match case.

Why? I think this three features are appropiated for searching in the current tab. Suppose we would allow a Find Next Feature within the whole window (that means, including multiple tabs): User would type the text in the Find field. Then, several situations may happen:

  1. The text entered is found in the current tab and at least in another one.
    • When pressing the Find Next button, the word entered would be highlighted in green.
    • All the words matching with the word entered would be found on the current tab by pressing the Find Next button so on.
    • Once all the results have been found, and if the word is included among the other tabs opened, by pressing again the Find Next button, we should open the next tab with the coincident text highlighted.
    • This action in my opinion is not a expected behavior for pressing the Find Next button unless better explained.
  2. The text entered is found in the current tab and not in the others opened in the same window.
    • When pressing the Find Next button, the word entered would be highlighted in green.
    • All the words matching with the word entered would be found on the current tab by pressing the Find Next button so on.
    • Once all the results have been found, the word is not included among the other tabs opened, by pressing again the Find Next button, user doesn't know if there is no other coincidence with the text entered in any other window.
    • It would be confusing for the user not knowing for sure if the search applies to a tab or to a window.

The same reasoning should apply to the Find Previous feature and its combinations with the Match case feature.

Find bar features useful to apply the whole window

Here we go with the feature i think is more appropiated for applying to all tabs openend in the same browser window:

  • Highlight all.

Bugs on the current find bar and possible solutions

  • When you highlight a text and select another tab, then come back and the button Highlight all is not pressed but the former word is highlighted. When tou enter a new word an press highlight all, the former and the new word are both highlighted.
  • As we are entering a word, the first word is automatically found and highlighted in green...
