I don't think this is the place for a flame war, so I'll just ignore the insulting comments (below) made about my suggestion by someone who was probably still in kindergarten when I started using LINUX. Of course LINUX is a multiuser OS, but that doesn't mean that FF shouldn't notify the user of available updates, just because he's not ROOT. And just as a non-ROOT user can click on an RPM and be asked for a ROOT password in order to install or update a package, FF could provide the possibility of a user who knows the password. BTW, the suggestion for System-wide extensions, is not mine, but sounds reasonable, based on the same logic - of course it should only be possible if you know the ROOT password.

- second this has nothing to do with ff and everything to do with "LINUX BEING A TRUE MULTIUSER OS".  this will never happen because it CANNOT happen so stop asking for this dipshit idea and learn WHY it cannot happen.  mmmmkay?
- third, installing/running firefox from your local home directory is already possible and trivial.  extract the tar and run the binary.  to update, delete the directory you have ff extracted to, download updated version extract to another dir.  done, faster simpler easier than anything anywhere.  god how dumb are people.
- what firefox needs is a magic extension that can autodetect dipshits and stop them from actually publishing retarded ideas like this to the internet.
