Tips For Effective Emailing
We all use emails all the time and it's amazing. However a few rules could be observed in order to make email communication easier; here's a short reminder of those recommended practices:
1. Be succinct and specific.
When writing your email, it is best to quickly get to the point. The receiver should understand the reason for your email within the first couple lines of the message.
2. Send with plenty of advance notice.
In order for email to be an effective tool for you, send your message with as much turnaround time built in as possible. That way you’re giving the person on the other end plenty of time to get back to you without risking missing your deadline.
3. Use the subject line appropriately.
The subject line is the best indicator for the receiver about what to expect in your message. Use it as such and be very explicit in writing your subject. For example, if a local newspaper asks you for a few words on the newest release of Firefox, include the phrase ‘PRESS REQUEST’ in your subject line.
4. Make your deadlines explicit.
Many of the times you send an email you will be looking for a response or answer to a question, and you may have a deadline for those answers. Clearly state your deadline in your message so that the receiver knows the absolute latest that he or she can get back to you!
