Current desktop search facilities are much more productive then search tools because of their database oriented approach.
In case message headers, body and attachments would be stripped the data could be integrated into a database, which might easily carry the messages of a users life and store the data separately in archives. Since attachments usually eat up so much of the precious space, these have to be specially treated and separated (i.e. to the file system)
Searching and therefore finding, as well as storing and archiving could be performed fast and (semi-)automatically.
