Just one quick update today. The topic is Slack. Look out for an email from Trust & Security landing in your inbox soon with questions on how you use slack’s history feature. Currently the retention time is 180 days. We’d like to explore reducing that to help better manage risk in Slack but we need your help. Take the survey today if you’re a slack user and help us understand how a shorter retention time might impact you.

Four updates this week.

First update from the Financial Strategy Team. The announcement has been sent that new budget tools and helping materials are available to folks in financial planner roles. Upcoming there will be a series of workshops where planning an analysis partners will be available to help out with specific budget scenarios. This means that we’re getting closer to one budget tool to use across the board and a unified planning cycle.

Second from the data and analytics team. They’re using machine learning to partner mentors with learners using a new algorithm across Mozilla. It will take into account skills, timezone, and availability as a means of making recommendations. That platform will launch in Q1 2020.

Finally from AV Ops. In Zoom news the MTV office is officially free of the zoom lady and video. All 55 conference rooms are 100% zoom. In addition to saving the 1 minute to join a call the meeting experience for in-room and remote staff will benefit from an improved line of audio and video devices. A special thanks to WPR for their efforts around optimizing room furniture and helping us coordinate the donation to charity of more than 50 legacy AV devices totaling roughly 800lbs. Globally 5 offices and 162 out of 227 conference rooms are now fully operating under Zoom’s room software. Up next for 2019 the team will convert 5 rooms in Taipei and finalize the room design for the Berlin and London offices. - Slated for Q1 2020. Just two updates today from the AV team. First, the 2019 H2 AirMozilla Satisfaction survey closes at the end of the week. Take the 3 minute survey, today. Your valuable feedback directly contributes to the development of an improved AirMozilla experience for 2020. 
 In Zoom news, Through week 1, 43% of the MTV rooms have been converted to Zoom! On the radar for week 2, a full upgrade to the MTV Atom training facility and converting the MTV Commons to Zoom.

The MTV Commons conversion to Zoom is a huge milestone as it introduces a reliable wireless content sharing solution with audio via desktop and mobile devices; making it easy for our staff to provide live demo’s. In addition, being 100% Zoom means higher quality content coming at you from HQ with no delays. For more on the MTV upgrade, check out the Mana.

4 updates today.

First from the IT Data and Analytics team. They are ingesting data! In real time to the new Customer Data Platform from ZenDesk and the Firefox Skyline Release in order to support premium services. If interested in additional information please contact Sumit Das or Josephine T.

Next up still on the topic of premium services. The subscription platform has processed Mozilla’s first premium subscription transaction. Although the platform is not available to the public yet testing with real credits cards, real customers, and data flow between stripe, FxA, Zendesk, and Salesforce has begun. This is a major milestone in supporting Mozilla’s new premium services model.

Finally from the AV Team two updates. 1st Topic AirMozilla. This morning we launched the 2019 H2 AirMozilla Satisfaction Survey. The survey will take 3 minutes to complete and will run from November 4th through the 15th. Your valuable feedback will contribute to the development of an improved web streaming solution for 2020. Last, Zoom - It’s Official. The Mozilla and Pocket SFO offices have said goodbye to the “Zoom Lady”. Both offices are now 100% Zoom. Between the 2 locations 55 rooms were upgraded to the new Zoom Room Design. Including adding 8 brand new rooms in the Mozilla SFO Office. Globally, this puts the zoom room conversation efforts at 47%. A special thanks to WPR for their support on upgrades with donating 1.5 tons of legacy AV equipment to charity. It’s time for the weekly minute update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global resource open and accessible to all.

Our first update today comes from Core Systems. Do you have slow C/Rust builds that make your life sad? Want to help your fellow devs go faster? Maybe you remember when we had icecc in the offices also referred to as Ice cream. Well the engineering workflow team and IT have worked to provide an SCCache distributed setup in every office. All we need is volunteers to let us use their CPUs to create distributed builds. The intent is to replace the user supported ice with the IT supported SCCache setup. Unlike ice we have SCCache schedulers in every office.

Next from the IT data and analytics team. Many mozillians will be happy to know that our team continues to build an API integration platform allowing you to focus on the data you care about. We’ve completed the integration for Skyline which gives a comprehensive view of Google Cloud, SalesForce, and Lifecycle marketing.

Finally for Audio Video collaborations the team is gaining some insight into our web streaming platform “AirMozilla”. Here are is some information on usage for 2019.

Through the month of September the team has supported 429 global airmozilla events that have been view 27,000 times and totaled 827,000 minutes of streaming video.

That’s an average of 40 events, 3,000 vies and 91,000 minutes per month though 2019. The team has implemented a few solutions along the way to improve the experience such as upgrading hardware and software globally to stabilize the steam along with provide recommendations on browser configuration best practices. The addition of Zoom and multiple platform releases have lead to the steady decline of user reported issues and overall improved experience.

Next week a short survey will go out to the company to help us reevaluate AirMozilla for 2019. More exciting news over the next few weeks on upcoming improvements.

And it’s still me. Now making an announcement on behalf of IT and Open Innovation. You may be aware that over the last few years the Identity and Access Management team worked to launch a people directory for contributors and staff that really reflects our unique Mozilla Culture.

That directory became generally available this year. As a result all Staff Mozillians gave us great feedback on what we could be doing better. Today we’re proud to release a brand new version of DinoPark.

So what’s new?

First! Let’s talk about profile pictures. I know I like to maintain a consistent avatar across Mozilla web properties. We’ve launched a new picture API, generally available today so all Mozilla web properties can safely pull in staff and community photos.

Next is LDAP and Mozillians access groups. If you ever asked yourself the question, “Am I in that group?” Now you can answer it by just looking at your own people.mozilla.org profiles. For now access groups here are read only but joining and leaving groups is a milestone still coming soon to a directory near you.

In other news Timezone has now been updated based on profile location time with auto-calculated time zone difference. This should help you in scheduling all those global meetings with colleagues.

You also asked that we reflect our strong ties to Bugzilla and Github by making handles available and searchable in the platform. Now mozillians can link verified identities for both platforms and elect to make their handles searchable making it far easier to find all the versions of contributors and colleagues across these properties.

Speaking of colleagues the profile now shows a complete peers section not just your reporting structure because there’s more than managers in a team.

Finally Zoom links that allow you to join a colleagues personal meeting room are now available as well which should save you a lot of time moving between the directory and meetings.

Don’t worry we’ve maintained the same security and privacy tenants that launched in the very first version of people.mozilla.org. All data visibility is staff configurable and we’ve also launched a feature that allows you to view your profile as other users to see what their experience is like.

With that you may be wondering what’s next. The big announcement is that NDA contributors are coming to the directory soon which is a major milestone in unifying our staff and contributor experience. We’ll open it up first to best-testing toward the end of October onboarding 20 trusted contributors. Provided that goes well an additional 400 NDA volunteers will join by the end of November.

Now the important part. Every profile owner has complete control of their profile. Now is a great time to check those profile visibility defaults and ensure that you aren’t sharing anything with NDA contributors you wouldn’t want to.

Let’s start off with some news from the ServiceDesk. macOS Catalina was released last Monday and the ServiceDesk team is working hard to complete compatibility testing. Our next update comes from the IT Financial strategy team. The financial strategy team works with budget planners in IT and across the organization to improve budgeting tools for 2020 planning. Some of these tools will be new to everyone and some of of the old tools will look a bit different. To help folks onboard more effectively there will be two training sessions scheduled in the next two weeks. For more information on that effort please reach out to Sophia M.

Finally in Zoom Transition news. 12 more rooms to go for the San Francisco office. Through three weeks 36 out of 40 rooms have been converted to Zoom Rooms. Week 4 will target the conversion of the commons space, 2 phone only room, and the facilities prep work will be done to complete the remaining 9 rooms. It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Our first update today comes from the IT data and analytics team. They’ve completed their first milestone for revenue data integration. This makes it possible for Business Development to report on Bing Data. A demo will be shown to users on October 8, 2019.

Also on the data front the team has also made a lot of progress using the Mozilla IAM person-api as the source of truth for user access for the new data platform. The results of that development effort will be used to drive data governance and standardize the process for access management going forward.

Next up the Global Zoom conversion update. Through 2 weeks, 33 of 40 existing conference rooms have been converted to Zoom rooms at the Mozilla San Francisco location. That means that 82% of zoom rooms now give you about 45 seconds back per meeting.

On average it now takes 10 second to join a zoom call from the moment you walk into the room.

What’s left for the SFO office? 10 existing rooms and a conversion of 8 previously phone only rooms will move to zoom over the next three weeks.

This weeks zoom tip of the week: In order to access all zoom features on your desktop client please ensure you’ve signed in via single sign on.

It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all. This weeks MinIT has two updates.

The first update comes from the Customer Operations team. The IT Customer Operations team is gearing up to launch the Subscription Platform, a critical new piece of infrastructure that enables Mozilla’s pursuit of new revenue sources and business models.

Built in partnership with the Firefox Accounts team and Open Innovation, the Subscription Platform ties together all the pieces of a subscription by integrating and coordinating FxA, Stripe, Salesforce, and Zendesk to name a few.

We’re planning to launch the first version of the Subscription Platform in support of the Firefox Private Network product concurrent with Skyline!

Next from AVOps. An update on the Zoom transition. A Zoom upgrade will be coming to the pocket office between October 21st and 25th. A detailed overview will be provided to Bay Area staff shortly. Additional details on that are available here.

For the SFO office Week #1 of the zoom upgrade has delivered 7 upgraded rooms for use. What should you expect in the new rooms? An effortless conference experience free of the Zoom voice prompts or music. This week, week #2 brings 22 new rooms by the end of the week and our overall completion percentage to 44%. Two updates today. First from A.V. Ops

The countdown is on! Just 7 more days until the Zoom Room upgrade begins in SFO. The 49 room upgrade will begin on September 23 and end on October 18th. Week 1 will result in 8 newly upgraded rooms. Staff will start to see the upgrade schedule posted on the digital signs and in the conference rooms. Please review those schedules and locate an alternate room while the upgrade is in progress. It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Our first update comes from End User Services also known as the service desk. On the heels of the MacOS “Catalina” release I.T. has updated our hardware recovery procedures for exiting employees and 2-Year hardware refreshes.

The most important note is that if you have one of the models 2018 and later that includes a T2 Security Chip you need to log out of iCloud prior to returning the hardware or we won’t be able to reuse that asset. More information is available on Mana here: https://mzl.la/2k3ob4C

Our next update comes from the IT Data and Analytics team. In collaboration with Open Innovation’s support.mozilla.org team they have completed the implementation of a Firefox support dashboard in the Tableau platform. This dashboard should be beneficial to the Firefox Product management organization.

Additionally the team also completed consumption of data from the Zendesk Platform into Google Cloud BigQuery which helps us get one step closer to full support for Firefox Skyline. Now an update from the AV team. Zoom! Is coming to SFO. The AVC team will be upgrading all existing conference rooms beginning September 23rd and wrapping up October 18th. As a bonus the team will be adding 8 new rooms bringing the total to 49 room. This should help with the high demand for video conferencing at this location.

Our final update today is a reminder from the GSuite team regarding the security of Google Groups. Be aware that when you create a Google group it has a web archive of all the content by default shared with non-members. Don’t forget to change that setting especially if the group contains sensitive content.

Our first updates come from the IT Data and Analytics team. They’re working hard building out the foundations of the new data platform on Google Cloud.

The new platform will handle integrating with a variety of data tools in order to give us more visibility on how we’re doing.

The team is also working collaboratively

with Firefox Accounts , data ops, salesforce, and lifecycle marketing teams to make sure that the Customer Data Platform is ready to support the Skyline release of Firefox.

It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

If you’ve noticed the different backdrop today that’s due to the fact I’m still in Las Vegas traveling back from HackerSummerCamp today. More updates on that next week.

Our first update today comes from WPR. In July, we conducted a series of test drills for emergency response using the X-Matters platform. Survey data from that exercise shows that most people found it easy to respond to the test drill. Don’t forget you can add X-Matters to your mobile device by visiting https://mozilla.xmatters.com.

Next an important announcement about office mailing lists. New office mailing lists were created last week to make it easier for different Mozilla teams to notify the right people. For anyone that is assigned to an office you’ll be automatically enrolled in the list that matches your workday location. It’s time for the weekly minute update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Our first update comes from the InfoSec team. Last week Mozilla onboard it’s first four MozDef pre-release customers. MozDef is an open-source SIEM that we have been developing internally for four years and we’re now experimenting with turning it into a full fledged product for the Enterprise. Alicia Smith and I will present on MozDef at BlackHat and DefCON this week. Any questions go to me.

Next updates from AVOps, in collaboration with WPR the doors to the new Paris office opened this morning. Seven new conference rooms were introduced along with combinable space. The new office layout was optimized for collaboration, accessibility, conference space performance. It’s one of the first offices to leverage the new Zoom rooms technology in concert with new hardware and other treatments to optimize the conference experience. With that upgrade AV ops also donated much of the old equipment to other charities and non profits in need. So far this year the program has donated 24 displays to charities across 3 countries. Special thanks to Carla Carle for her help with coordinating those donations.

For the AV team this continues the march toward the completion of the zoom rooms rollout. Our goal is to convert 50% of all rooms by the end of 2019. Next up for work is the conference rooms in YVR followed by Mountain View and San Francisco to close out the year. More information on that timeline is available here.

It’s time for the weekly minit update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Two updates today for last MinIT in July.

First up: Business Operations Support Services in cooperation with the Accounting team partnered to work on the CASA platform also known as BizTera. We use this for all kinds of contracting workflows internally. Wednesday they launched an integration with Sage Intaact our accounting platform to import purchase orders automatically eliminating a manual process that has been in place for 7 years. Not only will this reduce data entry errors but it will also give us the ability to generate reports on budgeting and more. For more information visit the link below. - more information

Second and Finally a some statistics from AVOps to share on the success of last week’s monthly internal call. There were 903 viewers on Air Mozilla, 151 Staff watching in the commons, 13 viewing from zoom. The conferencing platform was able to support 10 presenters from 5 different locations with two demonstrations during the call. The call ran a total of 91 minutes.

It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Since Q4 2018, the IT team has been working diligently to better understand how our staff and nda contributors use mana.mozilla.org ( also known as Atlassian Confluence ). Today we’re launching a quick and easy way to get support; a new slack channel. #mana-support. Whether it’s a strange error or asking for tips and tricks on how to better curate content. We got you. Once again that’s #mana-support, questions go to @jojo on Slack.

Next up a couple of updates from AVOps. Starting with an update from AirMozilla. Beginning last week the stream quality on Air Mozilla is now full 1080p HD.

We can even use that technology to stream “large meetings”. Over the last two weeks AVOps has streamed 32 different events using the platform. If you’re hosting an event you’d like to stream please fill out the form available at the link below and the operations team will reach out.

In other news end user services has now added the 2019 MacBook Pros to the hub service catalog and is ready to take orders. If it’s time for that bi-annual hardware refresh please visit the hub and fill out the form to get one of these new models. The 2019 models notably are only available for hardware refreshes not for additional equipment requests at this time.

Finally, we’ll wrap it up with a Zoom tip of the day. The best features in Zoom are still available in the desktop and mobile clients. For features like virtual backgrounds, recording, and calls longer than 40-minutes make sure you get that software installed today.

Four updates today:

Last week the thanks to a collaboration between AVOps and Infosec we rolled out a patch to all Zoom clients to take care of a severe vulnerability that allowed a malicious website the ability to start a video meeting. Zoom released a patch for this on July 9th. If you’ve not updated your Zoom Clients please do immediately. If you’re interested in some additional ways to keep yourself safe on video conferences I’ve also added a few tips from AVOps on how to stay safe to the IT MinIT wiki.

Tips for staying safe:

▪ Mute mics/cameras prior to joining meetings ▪ Don’t join unfamiliar Zoom links ▪ Know who your meeting participants are and monitor the ‘Participants’ list  ▪ Report any suspicious links or behavior to #avops or foxsignal@mozilla.com ▪ A special thanks to our EIS team for their partnership, diligence, on-going guidance in helping keep Mozilla safe.

Unrelated, the AVops team will finish the rollout of Zoom rooms in Paris from July 23 - Aug 9 2019.

Next up is a quick update from the IT Data and Analytics team. They’re making great progress rolling out the new Customer Data Platform on Google Cloud. To date they’ve captured FxA data, shared data with the marketing team, integrated with Salesforce for the trailhead launch, and this will be rolling out some Machine learning for the first time to better understand our user behaviors.

Finally beginning tomorrow July 16 the legacy phonebook, phonebook.mozilla.org will start redirecting to people.mozilla.org or as you may know it project codename “DinoPark”. It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Just two quick updates today.

First off from Business Operation Support Services. Over the weekend an upgrade was performed on the Confluence platform which internally we refer to as Mana. There were a number of bug fixes and new features the most notable of which is that Mana now has a mobile friendly layout. For more information on the upgrade there are upgrade notes available at the link below. Any issues please reach out to #mana-support on slack.

Next and finally WPR & IT will be conducting an xMatters Readiness Drill for all users in the Americans this Thursday July 11 at 1:00PM PST. xMatters is the tool that allows you to let Mozilla know if you’re safe during an emergency alert notification. WPR has a goal of getting to a global 80% device enrollment by the end of 2019 for all paid staff and contractors. It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to support Mozilla in it’s mission and beyond.

Lots of great content today with tons of participation after the Company all Hands in Whistler or as I like to call it “Camp Mozilla”. I can honestly say we got the full whistler experience. Just look at the change in this fellow from day 1 to day 5.

Now several updates from Security.

Security takes many forms at Mozilla, as demonstrated at the Security Mini-con held in Whistler. Security practitioners from across the company gave 5-minute lightning talks on projects they were working on or problems they found interesting. Have a security question or just want to join the conversation? Find us on #security or #infosec in Slack. After all security is everyone’s job.

Next up from security is an update on product innovation. Last week, Andrew Krug, Guillaume Destuynder, and Gene Wood presented MozDef : aka Enterprise Defense Platform at AWS’s Inaugural Security Conference, Re: Inforce. Workshops were conducted both days and generated a lot of interest and feedback on the emergent product. A pre release program for customers interested in trying out Enterprise Defense platform will begin on July 8. Interested parties can contact … me. The Final update in the Security Category is that we’ve launched new TLS guidelines for server side TLS. We all know that configuring your web server, database, or mail server for TLS can be highly error prone so we’ve launched a new version of the Mozilla SSL Configuration generator to help out with that. Using the tool getting TLS configuration right is as easy as clicking a few buttons. Special thanks to April King for that.

On the AV Ops front lots of great work as well.

Last week the YVR office officially said goodbye to Vidyo and converted 100% of conference rooms to zoom rooms. This effort is part of a 2 phased approach in collaboration with WPR to optimize the Vancouver office for collaboration bringing the total number of conference rooms to 12 at this location. Special thanks on that to Tara Robertson for finding spacing in the community where the old AV equipment could continue to provide value.

Related to that this will kick off the effort to convert all of the office conference rooms to full Zoom rooms and deliver and improved conferencing experience. Look for an email on that in the coming days.

Enterprise Information Security and Trust & Security have drafted new security policies for all Mozilla employees. For the next two weeks, there is an Open Comment period so that you can provide feedback. You can find links to the draft policies in the meeting notes, with instructions to submit feedback anonymously. You can also submit feedback in-person during a Comment Session in Whistler.

The first update this week is that we are now completely moved to Zoom for video conferencing. The Vidyo system was shut down as planned on May 31 and all Vidyo accounts have been disabled. Please remember to convert all of your calendar invites over to zoom links.

Here’s a quick zoom tip! Did you know that you can go to zoom.us/test in order to test your audio and video setup prior to joining a call.

Next up is an update from the IAM team. We’re doing an experiment with a new add-on to help you know when you may be the victim of a phishing attack. The add-on will show a green theme in Firefox when entering your credentials on a trusted SSO site. The add-on will also detect if you’re about to enter your credentials on a dangerous site. We’re marching steadily toward 100% participation in signups for Zoom with 91% of staff now having activated their zoom accounts. Using zoom has been great! Did you know that you can type /zoom in slack to get a meeting invite?

Friendly reminder that Vidyo desktop will be decommissioned on May 31. Make sure you transition all of your calendar appointments by then AND download all those recorded meetings since vidyo is around for a limited time only.

Second is a friendly reminder from infosec that phishing has been on the rise lately and it’s important to remain vigilant.  If you suspect that you are being phished, please do report it to the infosec team for assistance in validating the case and helping with incident response should it be a real phishing attack.  Please also be on the lookout for another ‘Security Nudge’ email in a few weeks from Mozilla’s trust team focused on phishing. Last week we talked with you about the rollout of Zoom! Our new video conferencing software. The numbers are in and I think we can consider the first week of the move to be a complete success. 80% of staff have registered for a Zoom account generating over 2000 meetings in just one week.

Overall satisfaction scores are reported to be 97% satisfied. If you’ve not yet made the transition to Zoom check out the Mana page here and remember to get those meetings moved to Zoom before May 31st. As always questions go to #avops on slack.

It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to keep the web a global public resource open an accessible to all.

First update on today’s agenda is we’re migrating to a new mobile device management platform known as simple MDM. Simple mdm allows us to manage iOS and macOS devices in the office spaces like the meeting room iPads. Migrating to simpleMDM should drastically streamline the speed at which we rollout Zoom conferencing in addition to providing better support for IOS and MacOS software updates in the future.

Second update is that Zoom is live today for all staff Mozillians. Check your email and follow the instructions to activate your Zoom account. Vidyo will be active until May 31, 2019 and we’ll give some more details on that next week.

If you’re looking for Zoom training there are sessions available Tuesday and Thursday. These will also be recorded if you can’t make one of the time slots with more training coming next week.

It’s time for the weekly MinIT update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Only two updates in today’s very short but important MinIT.

Update number one is that we’re zooming. Zoom day is May 6, 2019. What this means is that you’ll start seeing a Zoom button on all the meeting room iPads in the coming days and get your personal zoom meetings account by May 6. Any feedback as always goes to #avops on slack.

My second update is a non-traditional MinIT update since generally we don’t use this as a means of announcing departures. But this departure as I like to say is near and dear to me.

On May 3, 2018 Mozilla will say farewell to our Director of InfoSec Jeff Bryner. Jeff has been a Mozillians for over half a decade and if you’ve had the pleasure to work with Jeff you know he really lives the Mozilla values in everything he does. I know I speak for everyone when I say we wish you the best of luck on your next adventure.

It’s time for the weekly MinIT update. Where we tell you all the things IT is doing support mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Today’s one and only update comes from the AVOps team and it’s Video Conferencing related. It looks like we’re on track to deliver Zoom accounts for all Staff Mozillians beginning on May 6th. This means that the app will show up in the SSO Dashboard and be available on the meeting room iPads as an alternate option for meetings.

The team plans to support both options through May 31st, 2019. There will also be open training sessions for the Zoom platform during the week of May 6.

The AVOps team wants to thank you for your patience as we enter this transitional phase across our conference rooms. If you have an issue or feedback make sure to report it in the #avops channel on slack. Personally I had never done this until just recently. I was in a video meeting, dropped into the slack channel to report an audio issue and the team was able to fix it remotely for everyone in less than 2-minutes.

This is week 3 of April which officially makes it Mozilla Spring Cleaning week. In partnership with our compliance team, IT is scouring data stores for personally identifiable information that can be remove. Work is underway on SurveyGizmo, Salesforce, and other systems. Now might be a great time to give some thought to any PII that you could clean away as well. Thanks for helping Mozilla live by it’s principles specifically with regard to lean data.

In partnership with WPR we’ve also recently launched a tool called X-Matters. The X-Matters platform is a product that allows you to receive emergency related updates for your physical location and check-in to let colleagues know that you are safe. We all hope to never need to use a tool like this but might in the event things like natural disasters, active assailants, or terrorist activity. Our first update comes from the data and analytics team. In collaboration with Open Innovation we’ve launch the first version of the support dashboard. The dashboard is used to track the overall performance of an application we internally commonly refer to as SUMO. SUMO stands for support.mozilla.org. The dashboard is just as start and the team will continue to add more components over the next few sprints. It’s time for the weekly mini update where we tell you all the things IT is doing to empower Mozillians in their mission to keep the web a global public resource open and accessible to all.

Our first update comes from the IT Data and Analytics team. They reached an important General Availability Milestone for what’s being called Data Platform 2.0 least week. The new data platform will be used for things like people analytics, marketing analytics, and Firefox monthly active users. The new platform now running in GCP can scale nearly limitlessly to house new data sources as we bring them online. Any questions contact @Josephine on slack.

Speaking of data. The IT customer operations team is working to support Firefox for Enterprise by using Salesforce to see potential and projected revenue for new the relatively new offering. This allows the sales team to stay up date nearly automatically through the entirety of the sales cycle.

Finally … this IS the last week that the Eventboard experiment will run in the Europe Mozilla Offices. The final numbers are showing that we were able to remove upwards of 400 zombie meetings across the three offices.

• Data Team Service Metrics (Heather) In this week’s Data Team Sprint Demo, the team showcased their PoC on the Service Health Metrics. The team is focused on being data-informed to ensure we are providing the right level of service to our users. Metrics to help IT product team understand engagement as well as metrics that focus on resolution time, uptime, service/incident requests and alerts will improve our service levels & product capabilities for Mozilla. • GTM Support Capabilities (Heather) The IT Customer Ops team partnered with both the Customer Care and Firefox Product & Engineering teams to provide training over the last 2 weeks. Firefox Product and Engineering engaged in a session on the Enterprise Sales cycle; everything from Lead Gen, Lead Scoring, Pipeline Management, Lead Conversion, Sales Process and Contract Management. The Customer Care & IT Support team also received an all day training session focusing on the Firefox for Enterprise common issues, documentation, how to troubleshoot issues and our SLA’s.

• AirMo Research (Heather) AirMo Research Plan is underway with Survey & Usability studies being planned. Many thanks to all those in the #survey channel who contributed to the AirMo User Survey the team has launched. If you would like to be part of the upcoming usability study, please sign up here. [3]

• JIRA Tooling (Mark) IT took another step in our Agile transformation journey! We completed our tooling POC and implemented JIRA as our solution. It provides a best in class tool to improve how we collaborate, plan, track and report business value and speed to market. As we continue to move forward our roadmap will drive our OKR to build our Agile practice focused on gaining efficiency in IT and value to our partners.

• EOL for IRC in IT (Mark) IT will be moving to Slack channels as the primary contact interface for most services in H1 of 2019. This will be a phased approach from IRC channels, and we will notify members of the those IRC channels before those the channel is retired. • Our Business Operations Support team produced this short 6-minute video to demo workflow improvements they made with our WPR partners. • We got an initial glimpse into the new AirMo look and feel this week which is just the start of efforts targeted to improve navigation of events & content. (Wireframes)
• Completed the setup of a comprehensive security framework within our Data Platform 2.0 PoC that will enable the management of security policies across all components which is a key element to Mozilla data governance.

• Mozilla IT will be empowering the mission in many new and different ways in 2019 Stay tuned as we develop and share specific plans!
  • We are developing a software engineering practice skilled at delivering cloud native solutions. We will be making Mozilla-centric solutions by augmenting outside offerings through APIs and implementing our own solutions where it makes sense to do so. Our unique, global, community+staff use cases require us to get creative and cloud native to best empower our global, user-centric mission.
  • In the last call, Emma asked if someone could take the BMO Dupes web service and create a Slackbot for it. I built a function in Python to access the service, deployed it on AWS Lambda, fronted it with a Slackbot (in our sandbox), and created all the AWS infrastructure and a Continuous Integration pipeline to automate Lambda development and deployment. I documented everything in a public Gdoc (with extensive links to source materials) and my source code is in Github. Additional sources related to CI are in this Github. I’d love your help making it better, and I’d love for it to be a source for people learning about CI, AWS, Python, Lambda, or Slackbots. Contribute and learn and share!
