Summary

How should the Mozilla Foundation evolve to best achieve its mission of promoting choice and innovation on the Internet and supporting the principles of the Mozilla Manifesto? What should a "Mozilla Foundation 2.0" look like?

Background Materials

Mozilla Foundation futures Friendfeed room

Agenda

This is an informal conversational session, with a focus on trying to move the recent Mozilla Foundation discussions forward in some tangible way. Some possible topics of discussion (not mutually exclusive):

  1. What concrete things do you expect from Mozilla Foundation?
  2. Who are the communities Mozilla Foundation should be serving?
  3. What do you want to contribute to the work Mozilla Foundation will do?

Core Questions

  1. What does the Mozilla community expect the Foundation to be doing (to the extent that we can discern this), and how does this fit in with other ideas about possible Foundation activities?
    1. Or: What is the Mozilla Foundation for? What is its core purpose within the overall Mozilla universe (or 'Project'?)
  2. Are there any general areas/activities that we can already identify at this time as being worthy of further exploration?
  3. Should the Foundation be reaching out to new people and helping them find ways to get involved in the Mozilla community? Or supporting the existing community? Or both?
  4. What kinds of things can / should the Foundation do to build on (a) these goals and (b) the technology work to move the Mozilla mission forward?
    1. Or, merging the three above: Are there concrete things the Foundation should be doing to build on and connect existing efforts? and Are there things the Foundation should be doing to help Mozilla reach *beyond* what it's already doing?
  5. What principles should we use to evaluate a prospective activity to decide whether we do it or we don't? (is this too detailed? probably depends on the group)

Presentation?

  1. How do we guide the overall conversation about the future of the Foundation so that it comes to useful conclusions?
  2. Have we learned any useful lessons from the past 2-3 years of Foundation activities, i.e., stuff that would be useful to keep in mind going forward?
