Ammeter Requirements

Following are the requirements for the ammeter board that will be included in the second revision of the battery harness.

Requirements:

  • handle DC current of up to 2 amps from a single cell lithium battery
  • precision <= 1 mA
  • be able to measure voltage as well as instantaneous current draw
  • high sample rate (1 kHz)
  • ability to programatically disconnect and reconnect the battery
  • high speed USB link to host PC (capable of >= 1 Mbit data transfer)
  • allow lower frequency data gathering from the host - buffer & pass samples when requested
  • provide timing information with each sample (milliseconds since powerup)
