The FAQ needs work and here's where we'll be working on it. We'll start with the existing FAQ, and go from there. I realise that the wiki uses different formatting etc. but the main problem with the FAQ is its content, not its design. Coding it afterwards is the easy part.

So.. here goes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mozilla Update?

Mozilla Update is the place to get updates and extras for your Mozilla products. This service has undergone several changes that we hope will make the site better. We have re-enabled access to the developers area and look forward to serving the extension and theme developer community in the future! We will be posting frequent status updates as to our progress with the UMO service. The best is yet to come!

How do I get involved?

We are looking for volunteers to help us with UMO. We are in need of PHP developers to help with redesigning the site, and people to review extensions and themes that get submitted to UMO. We especially need Mac and Thunderbird users. If you are interested in being a part of this exciting project, please join us in #addons on irc.mozilla.org to start getting a feeling for what's up or for a more informal chat.

How do I report a bug on this site?

This site is new, and therefore is likely to have bugs and problems and should be considered beta quality. Please report any bugs you find so that they can be fixed.

Bugs found in the Mozilla Update website should be reported to mozilla.org's Bugzilla. The bugs for this site are found listed in the Update product.

Remember to select the correct component, and try to include as much info as possible to aid in a quick resolution of your bug.

How do I get my extension or theme listed?

Use the Developer Control Panel!

How do I enable software installation?

Software installation is enabled by default. In Firefox versions 1.0.7 and earlier (and Thunderbird) there is a preference in the options menu to enable or disable software installation.

In Firefox 1.5 this preference still exists, but it is now accessed through about:config. Find xpinstall.enabled and set it to true by double clicking on it or by right clicking and choosing reset.

If this doesn't enable software installation, or you need more information, please seek support for the program you're trying to install extensions to.

Valid App Versions for Addon Developers

(Massive ugly table goes here)

I see this error when trying to upload my extension or theme: "The Name for your extension or theme already exists in the Update database."

This is typically caused by mismatching GUIDs or a duplicate record. If there is a duplicate record, chances are you should submit an update instead of trying to create a new extension or theme. If you cannot see the existing record, then it is owned by another author, and you should consider renaming your extension/theme.
