  • Worked with Coce and Archeopteryx to find new volunteers with skills. Found one who is skilled and also nice as a person and likely to meld with our current community well. A SUMO volunteer is also interested in helping by becoming the owner of our Google Play content. Short term Goal is to find 2 or 3 more people with similar skills and mindset and get a stable and scalable team, then see if we need to grow more or not.
  • Pinged Reed about IPV6 problems with localization server, it is now working after a server reboot.
  • Worked with 2 new localizers for French, one of them (François, AKA Baball) has started working on FF37 whatsnew page and April snippets, the other is still in wait&see mode. 3 more volunteers contacted us for French but haven't responded yet.
  • Contacted a potential localizer for Kazakh (abandonned locale for Web content) that provided a translation in Bugzilla
  • Google Play beta is not maintained at all by engagement, English copy is the same as the copy for release channel, German translation is Google tTranslate stuff. I am working with Sylvestre to get a new copy for en-US that at least mentions it's beta software and not final and get that translated at least in big locales.

Pei

done last week:

  • Africa:
    • All contracted languages except for Lingala are complete with the Gaia localization. Begin to making progress in web parts, marketing and SUMO. See spreadsheet for details
    • Localization kits prepared by Rubric are broken up into Glossary, Style Guide and Test Cases (Gaia and Marketplace) and are beginning to be shared with communities, TAM/Biz Dev.
    • Provided bugs/task lists and glossaries and style guides for Nigeria community meetup.
    • South Africa Meetup: tried to loop in Marketing, Rep and Rubric on the meetup. Details are still being finalized.
    • Arabic: Dates kept shifting depending on which meetings I attended, ranging from mid May to mid July. Engaging the community, not just the leads, to start working on other components. Shared glossary and style guide templates to get them created.
    • Swahili community has completed Gaia localization and testing. They reported the challenge of getting the rest of the components started - so many tools caused more confusions which impacted onbarding.
  • Asia:
    • The Philippines: Identifying and preparing the community for 2.1S localization.
    • India: 1). It was confirmed that versions older than 2.0 will be the responsibilities of partners. However, it is still not clear if 1.4 or 2.0 would be needed, even though the launch is scheduled for early April. 2). Engaged Indic communities to complete the outstanding tasks, help Hindi and Bengali teams prepared their l10n sprint taken place on March 21-22.
  • Masterfirefoxos: 1). Japanese was pushed live 2). 1.3 English videos are still not available 3). Requested 2.1 web content and video content preparation. 3). Dev team work now focus on process for future release 4). Communities response continued to be slow; more errors were found in English.
  • Screenshots: Met with Tannie Low, the graphic person and Vik, PgM of marketing, shared roadmap of the coming quarters; challenges of lacking consistent owner of English content for all versions; concerns of partner specific build/device that impact the progress of this key component.
  • Legal: Documents updates for two sets of files; Vendor raised concerns that deadlines may not be met due to Easter holidays hitting different days in European countries.
