The Problem

"Add-on Compatibility Reporter" add-on still does not work and the wiki page <https://wiki.mozilla.org/SeaMonkey/AddonCompat> costs too much work, so we need a alternative approach to gain user experience. Expecially that will be required for a fix for bug 1145026 - AMO Add-On-Descriptions: Add link function leading to SeaMonkey add-on-converter and filling URL input pane (see Comment 32) .

The Plan

(Experimental)
An experimental thread "Add-on Compat SM 2.35 - " at newsgroup mozilla.addons.user-experience (on news server news.mozilla.org, for example) We have a pre release add-on to ease AMO-Browsing and add-on-conversion for seamonkey, works fine (November 2015), you can install latest Version from author's website

Decision required

  1. May be an other newsgroup or mailing list would be more suitable?
    1. Decided: mozilla.addons.user-experience at news server news.mozilla.org

How to add user experience results

Step by Step

Based on following instructions posting "Re: SM 2.35 add-on-compat – Adblock Plus 2.6.10 – [yes] – WINDOWS" (2015-08-06 07:05 UTC+2) has been created

  • Subscription for newsgroup mozilla.addons.user-experience will be required (on newsserver news.mozilla.org)
  • In Newsgroup mozilla.addons.user-experience search for "SM 2.35 add-on-compat –"
» Filter will only show that single thread
  • Click first posting of thread with summary "SM 2.35 add-on-compat –"
  • Click [Reply] button in Navigation Toolbar
 » Message Editor will open
  • Delete complete message body if there is contents
  • Behind the trailing " –" of the summary add a blank (space key)
  • Behind the added blank: copy / paste complete add-on name from AMO, for example "Adblock Plus 2.6.10" from here (for Converted add-ons see later instructions).
  • Copy / Paste to your posting summary line the best matching rating from examples below, starting with the blank behind the name of the add-on namd (for example: " – [yes] – WINDOWS"
  • Do necessary changes in summary line, for example other computer Operating System, or you need [yesconvert] because your rating is for a converted add-on, ...)
  • Add link to AMO page of the add-on ot the first line of the postinb body (here: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/seamonkey/addon/adblock-plus/?src=search)
  • add an empty paragraph (= empty line) to posting body
  • From SeaMonkey menu 'Help → About SeaMonkey' copy / paste last 2 Lines (User Agent ...) to your posting body
  • add an empty paragraph (= empty line) to posting body
  • If your rating is "not compatible":
    • Ad a Line with "Problem: "
    • Starting with following line contribute a brief, but precise description of the problem you observed analogues to Bug Writing Guidelines (Example: posting "Re: SM 2.35 add-on-compat – Zoom Page 13.7 [noconvert] – WINDOWS ")

Some Details

  1. Always answer to an existing sub thread concerning an add-on
    1. Please do not quote, delete all citation in posting body for your reply.
  2. Add hyperlink to AMO page of add-on like https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/zoom-page/ for Zoom Page 13.7
  3. Add user agent string in posting body, if yo have a "no" in subject please add a precise problem description corresponding to Bug Writing Guidelines so that add-on author can use your description for a fix
  4. Use [yes] if add-on was compatible during your tests
  5. Use [no] if add-on was NOT compatible during your tests
  6. Use [yesconvert] if converted add-on was compatible during your tests
  7. Use [noconvert] if converted add-on was NOT compatible during your tests
  8. If you have Information concerning compatibility with an add-on doe a new SeaMonkey Version without thread please start a new thread like "SM 2.39 addon-compat –" and then answer with your information
  9. Do not start threads for smaller bugfix releases like 2.33.2 or similar
  10. No discussion and no comments at all, in those threads please only add compatibility information. For further discussion Newsgroup mozilla.addons.user-experience, forums or whatever else might be appropriate.
  11. Please use copy / paste for Summary strings where ever possible. It will ease use of that data if you simply can search for summary="SM 2.35 add-on-compat – Zoom Page 13.7 [noconvert]" and compare number of hits with search for summary="SM 2.35 add-on-compat – Zoom Page 13.7 [convert]" to rate compatibility. Any missing blank or whatever else will cause necessity of very complex filters.
  12. Do not include the "[converted]" add-on-name-addition inot the add-on name in the Subject Line
