Wiki just for Developers or also Users? [edit]

Is this wiki intended for developer information or can there be user oriented pages/articles also? A description of the purpose on the main page would be useful. --Pmsyyz 22:56, 27 Jan 2005 (PST)

A good (and very obvious) question. Currently this is a wiki with no description of what it is about! Looking around I can see that this is a 'Core' wiki, with sub-wikis for a selection of mozilla.org projects. Each of the sub-wikis have home pages which are better developed than this 'Main Page' (i.e. they do at least give a sentence describing what it is about). That is probably because this main page is locked. Presumably this is to protect against vandalism and wiki spam, but really you should unlock this and let people develop the main page until there is something there which is worth protecting! It's fun to build a new wiki community, but not if its locked! See this article in which some wiki experts explain the kind of information you need to add, in order to promote the building of a sucessful wiki community. ...Of course you might not be trying to build a community. Perhaps this wiki is really just for your existing developers to collaborate internally. But again, if this is the case, you need to say so on the Main Page! By the way, I think a wiki for users and developers would be an excellent idea. -- HarryWood 13:53, 1 Mar 2005 (PST)

Mozilla Javascript, XPCOM notes [edit]

I have been keeping notes on XPCOM, Javascript, XPConnect, yadda yadda, over on another wiki.

I'd like to merge these notes into a better wiki for them, though.

Is this it? If not, can somebody refer me to a wiki where they would be welcomed?

I checked on the WikiCities Mozilla wiki, and they recommended this [1] one.

If I were you, I would wait with merging. Add yourself to Organized Links to Existing Content and once DevMo wikies are set up, we can start working on merging content from other wikies.
Is there really a reason for moving that stuff over? If there is, I think such content would be welcome at MozillaZine KB (dev. part).
Though with mediawiki software, you're going to have problems with articles named after interfaces (they'll be ugly, like NsISimpleEnumerator).

Stop Spam [edit]

I think we need to stop spam, and after seeing this blog post, i've got some links, you can look into more, but one thing weyou need to do is get this spam stopped. Somehow.

Hi - I just wanted to inform you that there is a spam filter for mediawiki used on wikipedia, and to suggest inquiring at http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/mediawiki-l --User:Bugmenot
We now have some anti-spam stuff (including the blacklist) in place as of a few weeks ago, and so far it seems to be working pretty well. The true spammers seem to have abandoned the place and we're only dealing with the ocassional vandal now. --[[User::Justdave|justdave]]

MediaWiki 1.5 [edit]

Hi y'all, sorry for leaving the note here. You might be interested in MediaWiki 1.5. Thanks, and sorry again, Ingoolemo 18:53, 29 Jun 2005 (PDT)

Recommended Add-ons [edit]

The first add-on is Clipmarks. In reading through it privacy policy, I noted the following:

"We reserve the right to change the terms of this Privacy Policy. Any changes will be posted on this page. We encourage you to check this page regularly."

Who recommended this application? And more importantly, why? This is the most onesided and blinding policy I've ever seen. A simple statement to "Keep your email contact info current as we will notify users via email about changes to this policy" would help.

I'm unistalling as soon as I figure out how. [Warning: You install and then are provided with the privacy and other policys.]

Village pump? [edit]

Where's the main community-fostering discussion page? Dori | Talk 21:34, 18 Jul 2005 (PDT)

I need help to create a new email account.

When I want to create a new account. The program always want me to choose the standard SMTP-server, but I need a different one. I tried it to change it in the tools menu but it didn't work. Where can I select a different SMTP-server?

Wrong version number on main page [edit]

"We've just upgraded the wiki to MediaWiki 1.4.6, you can read more details about the upgrade at WikiUpgrade." This should be 1.4.12 as mentioned at WikiUpgrade. Please delete this comment after correcting the version number.--Felix.Schwarz 06:22, 20 Nov 2005 (PST)

SVG should SVG:Dev [edit]

The "SVG" link at Main Page should link "SVGDev". because the contents of "SVG" has moved to MDC. --Taken 22:24, 8 Dec 2005 (PST)

Mozilla Wiki default skin [edit]

I was wondering if I could get a copy of the default skin used on this wiki. I have my own mediawiki and would like to work off the style used here. Thanks. kate.osborne@gmail.com

Re: Help:Searching [edit]

How is it that boolean functions such as 'and', 'or', and 'not' function in the search? This is Mediawiki - is it an added-on function? If so, is the code re-usable? I have been trying to implement this on another wiki for weeks, with not success; only 'and' works. Couldn't figure out how to ask Curious1 who originally wrote Help:Searching. If someone could enlighten me, we can take down this message. Thank you.

Removing old headers before forwarding [edit]

Would like to find out how to remove the headers from emials that have been forwarded. Outlook express is able to do this, but have not been able to find a way to do this using Thunderbird.

Multiple Home Pages in Firefox? [edit]

1.

G'day,

What does everyone think about the possibility of having "multiple home pages" (start pages) in Firefox?

For instance, every time I jump online (or open Firefox) there are multiple pages that I have a look at, such as web mail, Slashdot, and some other news pages and forums. I can only set one of these as my home page, so that the content of the page is immediately rendered in the browser. As for the remaining pages that I want to have a look at, well, I progressively step through my array of bookmarks. I would say that this likely goes for many of us out there.

Now, wouldn't it be great to be able to define the number of home pages (start pages) in Firefox? Rather than having one home page, what if we could define any number (or a reasonable amount) of home pages that are opened up as individual tabs when starting Firefox? The presence of tabs in Firefox means that there is the potential to realize this feature with minimal effort. Such a feature could be further enriched by allowing the end-user to customize "when" particular home pages are opened. For instance, in the morning there might be a given set of home pages that I would like to view when starting Fox, which is different to the set of home pages that I wish to view on my breaks, or in the afternoon. We can see that each of these instances throughout the day can be easily defined as time intervals, that have a list of home pages associated to them.

I would be interested to know what others think about the possibility of "multiple home pages" in Firefox, or if such an attempt has already been made?

cheers, Amedeo.

2.

Just figured out that it is already possible to have multiple home pages in Firefox...awesome. Although, being able to allocate time intervals for sets of home pages would still be cool.

Testopia - trouble loading cases using tr_importxml.pl [edit]

has anyone else has trouble using this? the case in the documentation shows loading a test case with "action" only, no expected results. so added the expected results tag and a few others I knew it would need (priority, category). I am using test plan reference ID for a valid test plan setup in the database. But still I'm getting: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 4, column 54, byte 181 at /opt/local/bugzilla/ssg/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux/XML/Parser.pm line 187

at Bugzilla/Testopia/Xml.pm line 221
at Bugzilla/Testopia/Xml.pm line 221

Is anyone actively using these loaders? I did have some very limited success getting plans to load but I have like 12 plans to load and several thousand cases, and the cases aren't loading.

Any help appreciated.
