What does this mean?

We will probably need 2 key notes from people involved at Mozilla, some community and technology evangelism. Localization and developer tracks as well.

Hm.. This will be too much strain on the organizers, to accept, review and select the papers. And it is already to late to launch the call 2 months before the event. Maybe a wiki page were people will state what they know and can share, and what they want to learn and discover on the camp.

Brainstorming for the Balkans:2010 event

Name

  • Balkans:2010
  • Balkan MozFest
  • Balkans:2k10
  • Mozilla Balkans Meetup/Meeting/Gathering
  • Moz-S.E.
  • Mozillians@Balkans

Location

Skopje, the capital of Macedonia.

Goals

  • What are the local Mozilla communities
  • How to enlarge local communities and how can people get and stay involved
  • Mutual cooperation
  • Promoting the Mozilla and its projects in the Balkans
  • Why would one contribute to Mozilla projects
  • Examine Firefox market share in the region, and work on strategies to consolidate/improve
  • Share l10n experiences and promote the value of native speaking users

Attendees

Open event like FOSDEM. Need to get list of Mozilla Contributors that are coming (separate page).

  • Which Balkan (and surrounding) countries are going to participate?
    • Albania
    • Bosnia & Herzegovina
    • Bulgaria
    • Croatia
    • Macedonia
    • Montenegro
    • Romania
    • Serbia
    • Slovenia

(Please add at least on representative of the local mozilla or free software community that you know or will be willing able to attend)

  • The number of attendants (depends on both of the venue and Mozilla Europe budget; Gorjan needs to give us some estimates on prices)
  • Number of attendants sponsored by Mozilla
    • How many fully sponsored attendants
    • How many semi-sponsored attendants
  • Split the number to sponsor equal number of attendants for all communities on Balkans

Timing

  • Date: End of May, Early June maybe? (22-23 May? / 29-30 May?)
  • Duration: 1-2 Days, probably Saturday-Sunday

Camp Location

Hotel offers

Skopje, capital of Macedonia

There are a couple of hotels in the center of the city.

Gorjan should investigate this. We need a brief hotels description, in terms of conf room size, spare beds at given time, location...

Conference rooms in hotels in Skopje can be quite expensive, and would attribute a too formal note on the whole event, the University should give a more informal and yet creative and open event.

Schedule

We will probably need 2 key notes from people involved at Mozilla, some community and technology evangelism. Localization and developer tracks as well.

  • Keynotes - Mozilla
  • Community Talks
  • L10n Tracks
  • Marketing
  • Drumbeat (Kerim)
  • Development

An hour of lightning talks will come in handy ;)

Schedule

Fun

Jovanovski: I had the idea of doing some sort of tattoo beach party Saturday night at a beach club, because we have I had a bunch of tattoos left.

Budget

Jovanovski: Give me the green light, and I'll look up hotels, prices, do bargains for massive booking and so on.

Other places to discuss

  • #balkans channel on irc.mozilla.org

Meetings

2010-03-04

  • Get a event name together
  • Agreed on a date
  • See if we can do it in the university campus to cut down costs and raise the 'sponsored' budget.

2010-02-25

  • Think about increasing Firefox market share in the Balkans.
  • Make the meeting open for all audiences that want to listed and attend.
  • Focus on localization and spreading the word of localized versions of Mozilla software.
  • Get people interested in contributing to Mozilla projects and it's mission.
  • Have separate meetings for Mozillians to discuss our internal strategy and exchange ideas/experiences.
