Minutes

  • Goal of this meeting: cross-team collaboration around content for apps developers
  • Coordination of projects: roles & responsibilities
  • Where does stuff go: inventory, plan, repos
    • developer.mozilla vs marketplace.mozilla - how do we solve this
  • wiki repo -
  • haves and needs for apps developers:
    • Fred: Dev Ecosystem is working on generic apps framework (codenamed "mortar", for now) - is this the right approach
    • solves for the need of a consistent look & feel --  - compare to twitter bootstrap or Android design specs
    • Bryan reports - Tier 1 partners want form elements, not design elements or custom styling. AND they don't want to build browser-specific apps.
    • Partner strategy per Bryan: the "ios shop" vs the web (i.e., everything else-- all the android devices, the IEs, tablet and mobile apps are built separately.
    • devs want easy app development approach, w/quick hand-off to designers to play with...
      • example: NPR Continuous Listener -- needs to work on different form factors: Chrome store, Moz Mktplace, Android, IE. etc.
    • devs want CSS reset, other Twitter bootstrap components
    • NPR demo app designed by James Burke for content provider -
  • Some questions around specialized frameworks?
    • 2D and 3D games? mkelly and dmose/jrburke working on these independently from apps
    • web components (codenamed x-tag) - works in IE10 + up, anything that supports CSS animations. CSS animations is used as event framework
    • For partners: Is everything but IE9 a big enough target?
    • Currently: partners use responsive design to solve for android.
    • need: example apps and/or tutorials for building simple but useful apps
    • need: case studies?
    • probably from actual partners (needs sales engr. help)
    • partner engineers to help integrate partner's apps with our marketplace
    • dev support to help document and evangelize as compelling story
    • need: landing page in a common place for devs to find it
    • Hack sessions with partners

  • Checkins/Calendar: who what when where, how often

  • Dev Ecosystem team (Fred + 7 devs): bridging the gap btwn APIs and devs
    • Daniel Buchner - PM for dev ecosystem
    • Marketplace landing page

   Generic apps framework    Web components

  • Idea: 2 demos
    • with Twitter bootstrap
    • big partners need something that works now/end of year.
    • B2G/Brazil is a separate target
