Status Updates

Product Development (Engineering, QA, Security, UX)

Payments

News on payment plans, implementation, and legal/financial across B2G, Android, and Desktop

  • Disabling PayPal on desktop/Android and only launching with free apps on those platforms
  • Integration of BlueVia and navigator.pay continues for Firefox OS
    • These plans changed last night at 9:40pm. People are still evaluating the changes necessary. (Email has been fwd'd to apps@)

Identity

Updates on the identity integration with Marketplace and apps

  • Waiting for OAuth plan
    • OAuth appears to be cancelled. New plans were distributed at 9:40pm last night. People are still digesting.

Marketplace

Core Marketplace product and feature updates, release readiness

  • Packaged apps has stalled waiting on decisions to be made
  • Payments/Identity are in question as of last night
  • New designs will land on -dev on Thursday

Firefox OS

B2G product updates concerning apps, release schedule updates

WebRT (Desktop & Android)

WebRT updates and readiness for upcoming milestones

  • Desktop WebRT is not on the development radar right now
  • Android WebRT will work (using the same mobile view as b2g) but will only offer free apps and no in-app payments

Apps in the Cloud

Latest on app sync

  • AITC privacy policy and terms of service to be delivered by end of August
  • Nick D. is standing up AITC client for B2G as an intern project
  • Harald is working toward AITC on Android later this year.

tl;dr:

  • Devhub is a single landing for apps developers, this is our focus
  • Not creating another CMS, using syndicated MDN content on devhub
  • MDN, Ecosystem, Marketplace teams will be updating/adding/removing docs to reflect changes in:
    • payments
    • manifest
    • submission process
    • packaging
  • Fred's team and Wil's team are talking about overlap in submission process and are getting in sync on end-to-end
  • Also working on a partners landing with marketplace design (competitor example)

App Review & Content

Current status of apps in the Marketplace and policy updates

  • Lisa started this week as App Review Manager
  • We'll work on assessing state of non-desktop apps
