Hey,

Mozilla Drumbeat is hosting a live sprint in Toronto in May 2011 in order to write The Book of the Web.

The goal to co-create a 'playbook' for use in engagement and campaigns that will help hundreds of millions of people understand how to think like the web and make informed decisions that enable us to collectively keep the web open and vibrant for all.

The book is being written specifically for educators and campaigners, as a tool for engaging and educating end users of all stripes and colors.

We want your help!

Here is the early version of the plan (or, the first step):

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Bookoftheweb

We are working collaboratively to identify the fundamental concepts that we believe most (or all!) internet users should understand in order be smart users / creators / participants / allies online.

From there, we want to distill, simplify, and package up these concepts in accessible ways that make them easy to convey and pass along.

Done right, we hope the book can be used to motivate online citizens and real-world learners to take a shared and active interest in a healthy web.

Would you be interested in helping? If so, we would love to have a conversation and seek your input as we establish the core concepts we're building upon, and articulate the goals we should be focusing on along the way. Questions we'd love to ask you:

  • Does the text on the page linked above make sense and sound interesting to you?
  • What parts of the vision most interest or excite you?
  • Where do we need to clarify and offer more context?
  • How can we plug you in?
  • Who else should we be talking to? Who else is working on related stuff?
  • What other questions or comments might you have?

We welcome your thoughts on all of the above, and looking forward to seeing what gets created in the coming months.
