Stage 1: Definition

1. Feature overview

Add-ons need to be able to notify the user of things. Being able to dock the display to a UI element would help users learn what to do with items that the add-on adds to the UI. Doorhangers would be less permanent than panel content, and a better experience than the current notifications module (eg, if you don't have Growl, notifications only go to the Error Console, which no one will see, AND they always appear in a specific location, not customizable by the developer).

2. Users & use cases

Add-on developers want to inform the user of information. Could be used as a first-run experience.
